Greetings, my name is James and I own a 1996 Outback Legacy. I love this car, even though I see others just like her multiple times a day. When i picked up this car in fall 2013, it had 189,000 miles and at this time has reached 193,000 miles. As others do with their cars, I have grown to love this one quite a bit, even with her many miles. Her heart is lightly leaking EJ22 paired to a 5MT and had no modifications (exterior, interior, engine, etc...) prior to my ownership. I plan to increase her functionality and keep her running for as long as possible, even if that includes a performance swap down the road. The main reason for me purchasing this car was for AWD and being able to take on winter conditions in town and in the mountain passes.

I am also new to forums and hope joining here will allow me to chronicle the changes to my needs and any other events that arise. I think that means making a build page, however I'll do some more research before creating a new thread for her. So far a quick list of alterations include:

Exterior:

02-05 WRX Wheels
205/60R16 Goodyear UltraGrip Ice WRT snow tires

Thule Summit cargo carrier
removal of rear tow hitch
restored headlight clarity

Interior:

02-05 WRX front seats

Sony XAV-64BT head unit

Kenwood KFC-1665S front speakers

Future plans:

Rigid Industries 91031 SR-Series White 10" Spot/Flood Combo LED Light Bar into grill area

Photoshop mock up below (proportions not exact):

rear sway bar upgrade (not sure which at this point)
upper tower braces
paint calipers or replace ugly oxidized ones (stockers work great)
StopTech Stainless Steel Brake Line Kit - 950.47503
new catalytic converter and upgrade muffler (I'd like to hear her a bit more)
rear wiper from honda pilot mod
Light weight crank pulley
Reupholster door card panel fabirc (something darker)

I understand my upgrades will not make this car worth more money, they are just my investments to make this car look/function the way I want it to. With that being said, I appreciate views of others, especially if they have their own personal experience that applies. I will try my best to help others in need of solutions, however like i said, I am new to using forums and will probably screw things up from time to time. Anyways, thank you for reading and hope to see you around the boards!

Welcome to SL-I! I'd recommended a white line rear sway bar (I have one in my 01'), also if you're getting a light weight crankshaft pulley I'd go with a kartboy as they guarantee it won't throw a CEL.

Hey twoheadedboy,

thanks for the suggestions! On your Whiteline sway bar, what setting do you run, if you have the option?
Also, I was looking into the Grimmspeed pulley rather than the Kartboy, as they say it wont throw a CEL either... I will probably hold off on this buy for a little while anyways.

I just got done installing my LED light! Although it's only a temporary placement, I got to REALLY see at night with this car. I pulled an extra switch from a scrap car, so i'd like to wire the light to it, and place it next to my OEM fogs to the left of the steering column. Also, I will take some shots/vids of the performance once I have it in a finalized state.

It's bright I am really pleased with the output! I apologize to my readers, as this photo doesn't back up any of my words.

I plan on sanding/filling/painting the modified grill black and moving the light up, centering it, top-to-bottom in the grill. There's a write up on the process of sanding/filling/painting a grill in this way on LGT: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/diy-grill-done-right-plus-fog-bezel-matching-62899.html?p=1191120#post1191120

Still coming up with a better solution to securing the light to the support frame. A work in progress!
BTW love adventure time! I wonder what's going to happen with Finn's flower arm...
