What all season tires should I get?

Well it's time for me to replace the tires on my 95' wagon. Being a high school student, I don't have enough money to run summer and winter tires in their respective seasons, so I need all seasons. I'm pretty much looking for all seasons that will handle well around back roads and have pretty good grip in snow. Right now I'm looking at General gmax as03s, Continental extremecontact dws, and hankook ventus s1 noble2, but I would like to know what you guys are running and how you like them.

I have the Continental ExtremeContactDWS and I would highly recommend them. Very grippy, cornering is good, stopping is excellent, and I unintentionally drove them in a snow storm (we had a late one in April this year) and they were actually impressive in the snow - and that's comparing them to Michelin Xice tires that I normally run in the nasty winters we get here. Treadwear is supposed to be pretty good for a UHP tire as well.

I've heard a lot of positive things about the DWS from the WRX crowd, too, for performance and winter. The only ones I would probably consider in league with them for all around use is the Michelin Pilot Exaltos, which are significantly more expensive.

What's your budget per tire?

My budget at most is about 100$ per tire. I'm on the stock 14" steelies right now but I have 3rd gen outback wheels which I plan on throwing 205/55r16 or 205/50r16 tires on. I'd really like to save as much money as possible since I have other stuff I need to get done to the car, but I don't want to cheap out too much.

I saw that too, and apparently general has a rebate on some of their tires. I want to hold off on buying anything immediately since my dad gets a discount (he said 5 to 15 percent depending on the brand) at a local tire shop and he was supposed to figure out prices for me, but he's been lazy :smt012

I've been looking at the Hankook Ventus S1 Noble2. I like the Conti. DWS but they are about 200 more for the size I need vs the Hankook. I was on Generals and I love them but they wear fast

When I had the stock 14s on my wagon I got Yokohama Avid T4's. They are discontiued now. I would look into Yokohamas. I have not heard anything bad about them. I also had a set on my 00 Outback and my friend had them on his Porsche 944.

I only put about 5000 on em when I got my current car. They were relatively new. But in that 5000 you could definitely notice the wear. I'd probably rate them for no more then 30k with spirited driving.

I did have a chance to use them again in the snow after my car was hit by a bus. Not too bad when you respected the conditions but when compared to a standard all season they stunk.

I can chime in on the ENVigors too. On my old 95 I got a set of these on 17" LGT wheels with about 70% tread left. They were a blast in the dry and gave confidence in the wet. Snow was down right terrifying. They had no problem getting you moving but don't ask them to brake or turn.

My friend has the ENVigors on his 944. They were great in dry and wet. But the Porsche did not see snow duty.

Well after looking around I've decided to go with the General GMAX AS-03. Tirerack is selling them for $312 with a $50 dollar rebate in 205/55r16. For the price I can't find anything better.
