Hi! This is my first post but I've been lurking in the forums for the past 2-3 months and I've learned quite a bit! I got my hands on a 1997 Subaru Legacy GT (BK) and it's pretty much fully loaded (as far as I can see at least!) and runs great. It's a one owner PA car, but it doesn't look like the owner was a very good one. Thus I do have a couple of problems :(
Fog lights do not work (the light for the switch doesn't even show!). Is this a common problem? If so, where should I start working on it to fix it?
Passenger side headlight is slightly dimmer than the driver's side. Any idea what the problem could be? It looks like the previous owner attempted to fix it by making a ground connection, but that's it as far as I can see.
Alarm is really funky. I've got two keyfobs. When I first got the car, they did not work. On the way back, the immobilizer engaged and I got stuck until a bunch of fiddling with the locks and such with the key. When I got home, I found the ECU reset wire and stupidly connected it (the green wire) (which triggered a flashing CEL, [looked it up on here I think and disconnected the wire which fixed that) and it magically fixed the alarm and keyfobs! Then it went out again. I found two inline fuses near the emergency bypass button, and took one out and put it back in, which magically fixed it again for a couple of weeks. Then it went out... again. This time I can't get it to work at all! The fuses seem to be ok. My question is, is there any way to fix it? Also is this a common problem too? If so, is there any good solutions? If there are not, is there any way to take the whole system out? It randomly immobilizes the ignition sometimes and if it can't be fixed, I'd rather take it out and maybe in the future add a nice aftermarket solution. [Sorry for the rant lol]
PS: Are the keys on this car supposed to be just metal? I'm trying to figure out if my keys are the original master keys or not... (Most of my cars [apart from a 1992 Crown Victoria] had the top part of the key covered in plastic, including cars older than this one like a 1991 Grand Voyager and a 1994 Accord)
There are some cling-on type window stickers in the rear hatch (nothing cool like SL-i unfortunately :( ) and I would like to get rid of them. This would be a simple task, but unfortunately, they seem to have been on the window for quite some time and are baked on. I was wondering if anyone knew how to remove them. I'd take a razor to them, except they are on top of the window defroster lines and I think they will be damaged if I did that :(
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!
EDIT: Remotes started working randomly today. Confused but happy xD Question still stands though...
