Upper Air Cleaner? Super rare JDM option

I just ran across this on eBay, and I've never ever seen it before. Anyone have details?

It is an Ionic air purifier. The BE/BH had one as an option that took the place of the paper filter that we got here in the states so it is completely hidden except for the "A/P" switch on the dash. Yama's S401 has one. There was also a BD version, but I am not sure where it went in the car.

They are all fairly hard to come by.. I generally see them for Toyotas on YJ, but rarely for Subarus.
