I live in sunny southern Japan. I picked it up a a few days ago after trading in my Honda StepWGN (also a 2.0l engine). It happens to be my 4th 1999 car in a row (other previous '99s Chrysler minivan and Audi A6 avant). I normally much prefer wagons, but this was the only 5MT available in my area at the time. The car has only 56km, but I had the timing belt et al done as it is 15 years old, and new Hankook ventus tires added. The roads are small and congested, so I haven't had a chance to open it up on the highway yet - so I'll withhold judgement on the effects of the "valley of death" between the turbos. No immediate mod plans yet, except for a new audio receiver head unit.
Aftermarket parts (as far as I can tell) are:
lowering springs
some big JDM muffler that my wife doesn't like
vacuum gauge installed
two sets of floor mats?

I paid 39k yen or a little less than $4kUS. There were a couple higher mileage A/T available for half that, but I think I got a good deal as this included the timing belt work and tires. This price did not include the extra $1kUS I had to pay for "shaken" registration (which is needed every two years for used cars :smt013 ). So out the door for under $5kUS.

I normally bicycle to work, so this will just be my fun weekend car.

Congrats on the new car...the JCI on both of my cars is coming up soon...but $1k for a JCI sounds crazy!

Nice ride. Have you got any plans for it?

No real mod plans at the moment other than a new audio deck. I'm just not really feeling this "valley of death" everyone talks about between the turbos. Maybe it is because I have the 5MT or maybe the previous owner had a retune. This car seems to pull hard from idle.
