hello so i have a 98 legacy gt that im putting an outback body lift on it. and the front is done but the shaft that connect the steering column to steering rack is messin me up.

1. which way does it go on? theres a long on a short side. which side is on top.

2. does it have to be lined up with anything? like the splines?

3. what is the easiest way to remove the shaft to flip it or re-align it

Looks like the long shaft is on top.

Did you leave the steering wheel in 'straight', keep in mind of the clock spring.
If over turned, it will break.

It's the auto-cancel for your turn signal, and it has these metal contacts inside it so that the wires (horn, airbag, cruise) don't need to go straight through the steering column, where they would get twisted and probably break.

ok soo i got the new one on and the steering was rough in some places but it would turn. so after the first drive with it, it seemed to fix it self as if it steers fine now!
