View Full Version : Driver side window, regulator?

So the other day my driver side window started messing up. When I roll it up, the side closest to the side view mirror doesn't go all the way up. It's even to the point where the back corner is at such a angle it gets caught on the top trim if I close the door. When it gets caught there's a gap between the window and the weather stripping. If I roll the window all the way down until it won't go down any further and then roll it up after closing it levels out some. Also when I roll it all the way up it'll start to click, and it sounds kind of like a gear skipping teeth.

Do y'all think this is the motor or maybe its off the track? Any ideas are welcome. I can take a picture of the window if that'll help y'all understand what I'm talking about.

I'm off Tuesday and Wednesday so I plan to pull the door panel off to investigate.

can you roll it all the way up, then pull it straight?

No, not really. It'll roll all the way up but still sits crooked. Even if I try and pull it the rest the way up it sits lower in the front than the back. My friend said that on some cars the window has to be "relearned" on how far to go up. I've never read anything about that.

I've seen the bolts that hold the regulator to the door work loose and cause the window to act like this.

I hope that's what it is. It'd sure be cheaper then a new regulator. Lol. I'd already know what it is, but last week I had to do the brakes on my girlfriends car, that was a pain in the ass. SMH. With any luck I'll be able to pull it off Wednesday.

I've seen the bolts that hold the regulator to the door work loose and cause the window to act like this.

And this was the culprit!! Two had completely come out, the remaining two had worked and warped the metal a little bit. I was only able to get one back in and tighten up the other two. I meant to take a couple pictures but was a bit frustrated trying to get everything lined up. Long story short it's a temporary fix.

I think down the road I'll have to get a new door. :-?

Door replacement was the end result on my nephew's impreza as well. For the exact same reason, hollowed out holes that, I tried washers and everything else I could think of for him. But impreza coupe doors are harder to come by than legacy doors.
