Since Subaru begins all things in the homeland, can anyone in Japan shed some light on the Levorg?
Is it a 7 passenger wagon or a 5 pass? Is it basically a boosted, low-slung full wagon based on the Impreza WRX, attempting to fill the niche the legacy wagon left open upon departure?
I've heard talk of a new 7-pass "SUV" which I though might be from the Exiga (current or recent to non-US markets), but with the talk of their new Subaru Global Platform by which ALL trims from which the Impreza to Outback and Forester will all share. Is the Tribeca being weaned and back-filled with the Levorg or the mysterious, to-be-announced 7-pass edition??

I wouldn't say that. The Tribeca, Baja, Brat, etc... are all examples of stuff not available in Japan.

Both Levorg and Exiga are too small to be 7 passenger vehicles in North America. The Exiga is considered a 7 passenger vehicle in Japan, but it's still pretty small. That's why its top engine is the same as the WRX. It doesn't take much to move it because it isn't so big.
The Levorg just looks like a Crosstrek with an STI front end (but only gets the CVT): http://www.subaru.jp/levorg/levorg/

Just found a video which answers the 7 pass thing at 7:14
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ia0B6Q_-m74
I'd say more like an Impreza wagon than XV, b/c it's low.
The press I saw mentioned it was boosted, but this video doesn't seem to support that. . unless I don't know what to look for in these new engines.
I guess I hadn't fully thought of the global and specific markets of different models, like we don't get any of the Kei class, but rather the big heavy stuff for the longer hauls and US safety regs.
The Exiga, while with 3 rows and available IN Australia, it's still just a boosted 2.0 and the 3rd row is likely smaller even than the Tribeca's?
Thanks again for the info, YamazakiSubaru!

The Levorg is a VA chassis, just like the new WRX/STI. It seems to me to be poised to be the replacement for the Impreza here real soon.
Also to echo Yama's comment about things starting in Japan... I was actually scouring the internet earlier today, and it seems that the BN/BS chassis Legacy has not yet been released anywhere but North America so far.. I can find nothing about it on subaru.jp, and the only references on subaru-global.com is to the North American version.

Hah, I was just about to post that too. At 9:10 on that video it shows the FB20 DIT engine. DIT = Direct Injection Turbo. You can also see the intercooler just above that badge.

looks like it's got some grip and performance for a good sized wagon...

HAHA
the best place to hide something (especially to the untrained eye ;) is in plain sight. i did think - Hmm, I wonder what DIT means"
So is the FB the new 2.0 in the crosstrek and Not the Toyobaru 2.0 in the BRZ?
So they've got a boosted market FB, that indicates it's likely to show up in the XV and other stuff?
Is the boosted FB the same engine in the twin scroll USDM '15 forester.
I know I could answer a lot of these questions myself, with research and time, but this is what I love about this community, :smt026 people can help save time and energy... :)
Besides, the kids are about to wake up from naps and I need to get dinner started ;)
I'll check back later tongiht and thanks ya'll! :smt023 :)

The BRZ uses the Toyotabaru FA20D Direct Injection engine.
The Crosstrek is just the renamed Impreza Outback. It has the FB20B Non-turbo engine.
The 2015 WRX and 2015 Forester XT both have the FB20F DIT engine.
The 2015 STI has the same EJ257 that they have been using for a while now.

I keep finding myself coming back to this post wishing that this car would come to the U.S.

Yeah
I think we're we're going to get "something" new in 2016. But I've read it's going to be a 7-seater based on the "new" Subaru Global Platform. It'll be interesting to see how they make all different models on one chassis, from forester and OB to impreza. I duppose tribecca too, and i'm not sure how he BRZ will fit into that mold. . .

Chances are that the VA/VM chassis is becoming the "global platform".
The 2015 WRX and STI are already VA.. The LEVORG is the VM.. The new redesigned Impreza will likely be VM as well.
