Hey guys! I'm Nate. I own a 1995 Subaru Legacy L.
I bought it a couple weeks ago for only $1000, and the only issues it has is the famous oil separator plate issue that all 2.2L Legacy's had, needs a new axle, new piping after the second catalytic converter,
and shifter bushings. The rest is all cosmetic and simplistic, but that is not issue for me.

It's September right now, and as far as I know, Wekfest is next year around August (I'm guessing around the same time as it was this year).
So my plan is to build the car, and prepare to show it at Wekfest next year.

It seems like a big plan, but Wekfest has been a dream of mine since they first had it in the Kabuki Hotel parking garage in San Francisco.

It came with the grille. The grille was the stock chrome/black look, so I plasti-dipped it. And it came with the hood as well.

So today I went to my local car junkyard (Pick-N-Pull here in California) and I picked up a full midpipe and muffler combo from a 99 Legacy L for $35. This solved my piping issue, but I did kind of lose my "Subaru rumble". It was somewhat loud and hard to hear, especially with the pipe literally being right under me. Since we are on the subject of this car I am at, if i was able to afford it, I would have bought both the front seats and the rear seats. They were literally in 100% perfect condition. No smells. No stains. No burn holes. I just couldn't afford to buy them was all. :((

Back to the junkyard finds.

I also picked up a new cup holder for about $5 as well. It's a bit broken on the cup rounds, but it's still usable, and now it won't slide out. If you didn't see the video from the link I posted previously, my shift boot was pretty torn and beat up. and also the plastic posts that hold it in place were also broken. So I found one from a 97 Legacy Outback that was in really good condition for only $6. Since I was at that Outback, I figured, why not grab the bushings since I needed them. Got those, then later when I went home to put in all my newly acquired parts that.....I HAVE BUSHINGS! So this poses the question of, why is my shifter so loose and wobbly? I'm beginning to think that it's my shift linkage. Any tips? I'll try to take and post a video tomorrow so you guys can see and can give me any tips as to what it may be, because right now, SHIFTING SUCKS! Finding 5th gear is a pain. Reverse is even worse.

So that's the current update as it stands. It was starting to get too hot outside and I couldn't find a good workable 2.2L engine to try and find a temporary Oil Separator Plate till I can buy the new metal one.

Alright. So in THIS video, I'm asking for all the help and suggestions I can get. I have an idea as to what might be wrong, but I'm not sure yet. So all the help I can get will be great! Thanks again guys!

you can either do a solid or find the correct size for the little plastic bushings, i did this on my old legacy it cost me 10$ total with shipping and there was 0 slop in the shifter, it felt amazing....the old bushings were none existent. I can't find the thread atm where i found the correct size to buy.

So I looked under the car again today. BOTH bushing sections are GONE! That's why it has so much free play. Usually the free play movement is only slight, but mine, mine is REALLY bad. So I going to go to the car junkyard Saturday morning and find another Legacy that actually has a good shift linkage. So this weekend will consist of working on the Legacy. I'm also thinking about plasti-dipping my car white as well as filling in a small rust hole that's on my rear driver quarter panel with bondo. It kind of needs to be done haha. So lots of car work this weekend.

I mentioned this under your video, but I'll do it here, too. You may want to look into your return springs, as well. They keep it from flopping around, while the bushings are what's responsible for the shifter being hard to find a gear with.

Oh that's gone too. I'm pretty much going to just get it all from the junkyard and replace it all. It would just be better to do in the long run.

Question....can I pull a shift linkage from a 2nd Gen wagon and use it on a sedan or does it have to come from a sedan?

Sedan or wagon or impreza. All will swap over. Or if you want to upgrade, do wrx linkage AND shifter. Be aware the outback legacy parts are slightly different use to the body lift. They will work, but they are a tad longer. Looks like a solid car to start with. The pick and pull yard in Windsor generally has 2 or 3 subies and they rotate stock frequently.

UPDATE!

So this past week, my car was broken into. They didn't break the front door windows. They didn't break the rear door windows. No. They broke the passenger rear quarter window. The small one! So now on top of having to buy my axle this week, which by the way, I was able to buy from my local auto parts store for only $50 brand new, I will also be buying a new quarter window, because some a-hole decided they wanted to steal all my tools I had in my car. Not the car ramps and the camera gear, minus the camera which was in the house, but the tools. So that's now, what, three things to replace? Window, axle, and tools? Great.

Well, next Monday I will be taking a trip to my local Pick-N-Pull to get some things as well. So wish me luck guys!
