Figured as there's not much to show of my GT-B yet, I would at least show what I worked on the last 5 years :)

I had quite some bad luck with this Golf, still love it to death, lol.
When I bought it, it looked like this and already had done 22xxxxKm.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_001-1.jpg

A week after I bought it some guy backed up into my fender...
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/smoverolling1kgki-1.jpg

Few months later I discovered it had some rust (was all hidden under tons of sikaflex).
Few years later, I dsicovered that the Golf was rear ended pretty bad at the previous owner, fixed properly then, but badly conservated, hence all the unusual rust for a 97 MKIII.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_015-1.jpg

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_022-1.jpg

Patched it all up
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_023-1.jpg
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_024-1.jpg

Few months later some stone tried to kill me
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_029-1.jpg
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_030-1.jpg

Got a new windshield, few months later crashed it on the Nordschleife on my first wet lap.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_046-1.jpg

Few weekends later I fixed my failure.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_056-1.jpg

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_060-1.jpg

Two months later few cars in front of me did an emergency brake while I looked back over my shoulder to change lanes, as a result I hit a Corolla.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_061-1.jpg

A day later, after a night of welding and bending it was driveable again.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_063-1.jpg

Few weeks later, on a Friday, I ran over some truck tyre parts on the Autobahn doing 160Km/h.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_064-1.jpg
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_065-1.jpg

The next monday I had the whole front fixed and repainted... except for the parts the tyre hit, just so I would get more money from the truck's insurance.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_070-1.jpg

The weekend after, I fixed the rest.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_073-1.jpg

Swapped the used 20th Anniversary interior for the Recaro interior from a GTI Edition
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_090-1.jpg
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_092-1.jpg

Bought Vogtland Coilovers and figured I would exchange/repair some other things as well while I was at it.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_093-1.jpg

Also repainted the OEM wheels and added different tires.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/img_1801072s-1.jpg

Bought this for the engine and other parts.
It was primered, we added cool dents and some black paint.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/4822611582_d9a8876a67_b-1.jpg

Pulled the engine out... never would I've thought that this would be sitting in my garage for 4 years till I made any use of it, lol.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_108-1.jpg
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_109-1.jpg

Made it past 299999Km (it jumps back to 0 after that with the 'total' disappearing in the display)
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/20101218img_02404pmj-1.jpg
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/20101218img_02431r67-1.jpg

Engine at 303000Km. First, unopened engine, first gearbox.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_119-1.jpg

Long time no crash, so a motorhome came my way to fix that.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/167160_187347604609785mihi-1.jpg

Decided it was time to get my sloppy paintjob fixed as well, so I threw on some spare parts while the front was at the paint shop.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_120-1.jpg

A week later, everything looked proper again.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/wall_GTI_67_HDpng-1.jpg

Upgraded the interior to the more rare, black leather Recaro interior from a black MKIII Golf Colour Concept.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_146-1.jpg

Notched the frame to drop it a little more...
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/6019986652_1fc295fbc9_b-1.jpg

Got a way nicer steering wheel
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_166-1.jpg

Added a towbar, just because it was cheap and the Golf originally came with one, but the previous owner probably didn't install it again after the crash.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_174-1.jpg
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_176-1.jpg

Gave the interior another upgrade, custom headliner and us cabrio sun visors as well as MKIV golf interior lights.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_183-1.jpg
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_184-1.jpg

Finally got the wheels I always wanted.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_188-1.jpg

Exhaust sheered off on a speedbump... so I fixed some other things as well.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_206-1.jpg
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_207-1.jpg

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_211-1.jpg
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_212-1.jpg
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_215-1.jpg

Some more rust fixing after the winter.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_220-1.jpg
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_222-1.jpg
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_224-1.jpg

After 360000Km, my gearbox started dying, so I grabbed the gearbox from the 2.0 16V and gave it a little overhaul.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_229-1.jpg
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_232-1.jpg
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_236-1.jpg
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_237-1.jpg
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_241-1.jpg

Few days later the clutch started slipping badly, so I decided it was time to fix the gearbox
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_252-1.jpg
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_253-1.jpg

Clutch was soaked with oil from the gearbox.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_254-1.jpg
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_256-1.jpg

New gearbox was hydraulic clutch and wire driven shifter, so I had to make a hole for the master cylinder, most Golfs already had the hole there, but of course not mine.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_257-1.jpg

While I was at it, I also gave it a new steering rack as the old one was leaking, and of course I repainted and cleaned most other parts.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_259-1.jpg

After 4 days of work, everything was back in place.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/8605103418_aaf84d834c_b-1.jpg

Bought a second set of wheels, because why not...
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_269-1.jpg

...and because I had done all this work and fixed about everything, I just had to crash it on the wet Nürburgring again. :smt021
https://scontent-b-fra.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpf1/t1.0-9/1375852_698737800137427_999008030_n.jpg

I bought my 96 Legacy GX 2.2 after this, as I figured it was useless to patch the Golf's shell up again.
Decided I would first finish my long term project (86 Scirocco 16V GTX) and then reshell the Golf, but life happened and a few months later I had the chance to get the ultimate car to reshell my MKIII with.

...MKIII Golf Syncro 1.8 3 Door with a sunroof.
They are pretty rare and even in a bad condition and with no extras they sell for a lot of money, as pretty much everybody wo wants to go Turbo AWD is looking for one.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_274-1.jpg
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_275-1.jpg
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_277-1.jpg
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_279-1.jpg

The Syncro was in a pretty bad condition, but everything I needed was in a good condition, including the rust free and untouched shell.
Two weeks after I got it, I started working right away and pulled the 2.0 16V out that had been sitting in my garage for 4 years.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_280-1.jpg

Engine was out a few hours later
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_281-1.jpg

Syncro gearbox attached to the 2.0 16V
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_285-1.jpg

Had to add a few cables to the engine harness for the automatic a/c the Syncro came with
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_290-1.jpg

New engine back in its new home
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_295-1.jpg

All done. Engine did start up right again after I plugged the ignition coil and fuel pump back in.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_297-1.jpg

Swapped the 16V cluster with the board computer in
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_298-1.jpg
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/09/golfgti_301-1.jpg

Shortly after I this, I found and bought the GT-B.
In the next weeks, I'll part out the red Golf and swap all the good body parts onto the Syncro, also will swap the small 4lug axles to the bigger 5lug ones from the red Golf, including the bigger GTI/VR6 brakes, got everything already waiting in the garage.
Next year I should get the whole body repainted so that it'll just look like my old Golf.

This turned out quite a bit longer than I inteded it to be, but oh well... just figured I would show a little of what I already did and what I'm currently working on even if it's not a Subaru. If there are any people interested in this project I'll make sure to keep this updated.
Just hope I can soon show some progress on the GT-B as well. :smt023

Suhwet! I really enjoyed reading this. Euro car threads are few and far between on this forum( imo) plus you take excellent photos! Stoked to see what happens with the subaru

You have a hulluva nice Golf. I would rock that without a doubt.
