i added this on to a tread on ANSIOC but have not gotten an answer, so i figure here might be a good idea.

my cruise control does not work.

did some trouble shooting with the help of my Haynes manual, but still no go. fuse is OK. light on the switch in the cabin works. brake lights sensor is OK as afar a i can tell (lights comes on when i step on the pedal, off when i release).

so i started looking under the hood.

the c-shaped thing on the throttle body with the springs moves freely, but when i turn (so that it simiulates increase in throttle input), the cruise control cable stays slack (no return). there is a clicking / knocking sound inside the control assembly that is against the fire wall (can someone PLEASE go jiggle their's to see if this is supposed to happen?).

all hoses and pipes look OK and are connected securely.

any thoughts??

Failed cruise control module then?

The cruise module is linked to speedometer control too - when my speedo dies, my cruise control also fails. For some reason, whenever I use cruise control, my speedo never actually fails.

any idea where is module is??

i don't think the haynes manual goes into such detail.

The cruise module is the circular "bowling hat" looking thing mounted to the firewall. Trace the throttle cable back to that, that's it.

The other possibility is that the switch on the steering wheel may have failed.

What exactly do you need jiggled? The cable right next to the module, the cable at the throttle body, the accelerator cable, etc...? I can do it, but I don't want to do it wrong and give you the wrong info.

the cable from the module to the throttle.

when i turn the throttle open with the engine off, i get slack in the CC cable. i THINK it is supposed to be like that, but i just wanna be sure.

fixed with some help from NASIOC.

Another common problem on cars with manual transmission is the clutch cancel switch. There is a plunger switch on your clutch pedal that shuts off cruise control when you depress the pedal. There is a plastic piece in the clutch pedal where the switch plunger is supposed to hit it. If the plastic piece breaks it leaves a hole, and the switch does not get pushed- so it always thinks you have the clutch pedal pushed in. Therefore the cruise control never engages. Take a look at the pedal, and the switch, and you'll see what I'm talking about.

By the way, the part number for the little plastic cap is 36036AC010 and it should cost about $1.50.

Or you can use a piece of tape across the empty hole.

fixed!!!!!
