checking on exhaust compatibility - Outback to Legacy

Will this mid-pipe fit my sedan?

It says Outback only... so that would wagon, right? It's about HALF the price of the OEM cost of the mid-pipe, and includes all the hardware.

Here's the situation. I don't list the GT seperately, however, the pipe I have listed on ebay fits Outbacks, as I said. But here's the thing. The reason I sell this one is because most of the aftermarket listings list both Legacy and Outback as the same. They aren't!

Have you purchased an aftermarket pipe and it doesn't fit? If so, then I am pretty sure that this one will. I'm not sure if it's the 2.2 vs. 2.5 engine that is the difference, or simply the Outback issue.

In either case, if you'd like to try it and it doesn't fit, I'll send a call tag for it and refund your entire purchase including the shipping. I wish I could be more certain, but I really am not. Let me know what you decide, and thanks again for that great carfax tip!

cause it's for a wagon. if you had a regular legacy wagon it would, but not a sedan.

alright, I'll ask the explicit question - in what way, besides it being a wagon part, means that it will not fit the sedan?

Is it longer than it the sedan part?

I was under the (misguided?) impression that Outback simply meant "lifted & with different trim"?

Here's another message from the seller:


The pipe measures 56 in. (measuring straight, flange to flange). The front flange holes are 3 5/8 in. center to center, and the rear flange is 3 1/2 in. center to center.

There is a hanger bracket located approximately 19 in. forward of the rear flange. The resonator is about 2 in. behind the front flange, but I am sure it is much smaller than the original one, this shouldn't matter in the overall fitment and performance.

Let me know what you decide, and yes, of course I will issue a complete refund including shipping if the piece doesn't fit the way it should. Hope this helps.

Yes, I'm pretty sure that the wagon mid-pipes (Outback or Legacy) are longer than the sedan (Outback or Legacy) ones.

Well, I measured the stock pipe on my GT last night, it is:

56 in. (measuring straight, flange to flange). The front flange holes are 3 5/8 in. center to center, and the rear flange is 3 1/2 in. center to center.

Looks like I'm buying an outback mid-pipe to replace my rusted one!

that's totaly true, but there's Outback Wagons and Outback Sedans ... wagons are longer than sedans unless it's an outback sport, then it's an impreza.... all that should be pretty visably obvious though.

^ that's true, and that's the distinction I understand.

However, this mid-pipe that was advertized, was advertized for an Outback, and is the same dimensions as my GT.

Well, I did a test fit tonight, lining up the new pipe with the old one.

Whaddyaknow, SAME length.

The new pipe has a smaller resonator, and is pretty well constructed. The vendor on ebay "licatalytic" delivered on time, for only $9 UPS ground from NY state.

I'll be cutting the bolts on the stock exhaust this weekend, and fitting the new pipe.

If I remember, I'll take pics of the carnage. :lol:
