When you mean passenger window, do you mean JDM passenger or USDM passenger? Haha

Nice with no rust either. Too bad it's automatic....

11-17-2014, 07:21 PM
Haha...I'm always speaking "RHD" when I type or talk about stuff on my cars. It's second nature now to say or type "US Driver" or "US Passenger" if I do.

Automatic is no big deal to me. We'll see what my research digs up with pedals, shift linkage and trans options. Never know...manual swap could be a fun project if I find some cheap stuff.

I'll have a cheap 06 trans, diff and axles to go in it lol

I need a RHD car. I'm feeling left out. Glad you got this one.

Haven't checked out that one in Lynnwood yet...I'm itching to though! I hope I don't get carried away!? :/

I can wait to start creating this thing too....it's already done in my head. I've got the plan! Cleaning up the interior and getting the motor healthy and swapping in a different rear diff need to come first.

3 cars all needing/wanting things ranging from $100-$500 a pop....stressful. #firstworldproblems

The Great Pacific Northwest is a mecca for these Legacy's....there are atleast 15-20 to choose from at local yards within 30-45 minutes of me. Making a trip to one tomorrow to poke around.

Turbo?!?.....Maybe. It would be fun thats for sure. I guess a 5 psi homemade kit on the EJ22 wouldnt be all bad. We'll see how much the headgasket fix will be plus all the other stuff needing/wanting to be replaced.

Drivers Door Switches and Bezel: *Passenger side window button sticks, *Random screw through Drivers window switch?

Once again, like with the 99RHD....the donor car was no where near the checkout! It was a long haul with all this. Double backing to move the other pile of stuff I pulled closer as I went. All of this while having my tools around my arm like a woman's purse so no "less than desirables" walk off with them when I was out of site. :/

For the love of the game I guess! :smt030

Yeah, 1 of them. Turns out there are 2 - White 92-94's up there and I pulled these parts off a different one than Brad sent me pictures of! It was getting late and after fighting with that hatch I just wanted to get back home.

Sucks I might have to go all the way back up again and see the other one for fenders?

Probably not gonna see daylight for a while! :(

I've fully committed to doing things in this order:

1. Interior: Carpet, Seats, Broken Interior Panels, Speakers
2. Undercarriage: Major Pressure Washing, Rear Diff, Rear Disc Conversion, Front Brakes and Suspension
3. Body and Exterior: Prep and Paint...not gonna waste a ton of time and money on it
4. Motor - Either JDM NA EJ20 or Replace the Head Gaskets and other crap on this current EJ22

Like I always say....It's already built in my head, just need the money and time to get there. :/

$100.00.....Couldnt pass up the deal. May go on the 02 though. Picking up a set of 02-03 WRX Wheels tomorrow for $50 that need sand, primer and paint too. We'll see what comes of it!? Maybe just some cash on a re-sell?.....Always a good result too.

I've got another wheel choice in mind so, a flip of one of these sets SHOULD (should!) be my game plan. :smt017

A 93 SS Sedan popped up at a yard an hour north of me yesterday on craigslist. I hit the road just after 8 this morning!

One guy beat me to the car but thankfully he already had an SS but with Grey Interior and he wanted the ALL black. He took the full interior, suspension and brake lines. That poor car will be gutted and crushed by Monday cause there wont be anything left of it for anyone to buy! :P

Anyway....I got the front bumper and grill!

This is the one that came in my car because, eventhough its a 1993 actually had manual seatbelts! Not the motorized garbage!

The new carpet I pulled and cleaned was from a 1994 with the power belts, needing these extra cut outs above for the shoulder harness.

Now, thats the reason I had to pick up this different center console to cover these cut outs.

:Edit: 1/25/15 - Trans is garbage. Bigger failure inside ripped things apart. I tore it down and I dont like the way things look. I'm going to wait and save to buy one from LKQ or something when an engine is ready to be put back in with documented miles and a 6 month warranty so when I get it and put it in i've got the full 6 mo. to test it out. Atleast it came with the linkage...that saves me time and money!

Woo Hoo!

I love seeing SOHC Auto's discarded for bigger better things. I couldn't help but notice there's an awful lot of transmission, and not a lot of engine, when sitting next to a DOHC manual.

I haven't been following the thread enough, have you sussed your new engine? If not, slap some EJ25D heads on the 2.2 for great success.

Also don't biff those half shafts if they have good CV's... Subie half shafts are all interchangeable between each other. Auto, manual, 89 to 03.

I'm very happy to have it finally out! The Trans is HUGE and ridiculously heavy too. I will save the axles. I just got carried away gutting this thing out! :P

Soo...as far as the engine goes...it started and idled just fine before pulling it and sounded pretty good with no rattles or ticks but, will need to be cleaned thoroughly because I think part of/maybe THE problem with it overheating was the gloppy, pinkish coolant mix that came out when I drained it. T-stat, radiator and other passages may have been blocked?

Haven't sourced anything yet but I DO want to have some fun with what goes back in for sure! 2.5 heads have been a front running idea, maybe a 2.5 swap altogether or even a JDM NA EJ20 (cause of low miles and relative cost).

Got a long way to go before it'll be needed though. Wheel bearings, tie rods, ball joints, brakes and suspension first after the wheel wells and under carriage are prepped & painted.

As someone one running a JDM N/A EJ20D, with a link ecu in a BC, I can tell you id have more fun with an EJ22D, and it would go better. But I guess you guys do have that mystical aura that follows the ever rare EJ20 stateside. Maybe worth it just for the point of difference. And with a tenable ecu, they can be quite peppy.

ags18
02-06-2015, 01:38 AM
Oh, there isn't any "JDM yO!" status with an EJ20 for me. I've been just considering it from a price, availability and low mileage point of view. I could possibly get one locally for $700-$900 with 40-60,000 miles. Whereas a Re-built EJ22 people are asking $1200-$1600! :/

Cleaning out my current motor and some 2.5 heads (now that I know Robin has some) is sounding pretty fun.

Reuben

20D's are good wee motors. You really need to tune them to get the most out of them though, I've found! Not a single person I know here in NZ has bothered making more power out of a 20D without forcing induction, which is sad. But I did have a mate who slapped a supercharger on one, but left fuelling and ECU stock. I reckon he could have made factory turbo power with none of the lag and all of the response with a simple tune.

I'd also love to see what my 20D is truly capable of, but I can't push it with it's blown head gasket. Trust me to pick the only 20D know to man with a blown headgasket, to use as my 1.8SOHC GTFO motor.... Still, it's still hooning about the place as is, I've commuted it to work and the shops etc for a good 3 months now with it's head gasket gone. Little fucker refuses to die!

One more point. JDM 250T foux up/down pipe setup, and a turbo cross member, with turbo headers. The noise that wee 20D makes with that setup is to die for, it'll make the turbo boys jelous. Not loud, just beautiful colin mcrae esk growl.

Robin: I like the sound of that! I'll have to speak with you later on about how to attack the cleaning, replacement/rebuild of this bottom end too.

Good knowledge Reuben. Thanks! The EJ20's I would have access to wouldn't come with ECU's I dont think? Everyone runs their 22 or 25 ECU's to power them I believe.

So, the EJ20 NA ECU is tunable? Or, are all EJ ECU's tunable and I've just never heard of people bother with NA motor power around here!? :P

Building cars/ having minor OCD like this is kind of a blessing and a curse. :/ I go just far enough to the point where I can't wait, or tinker with anything any longer and then I just do it and move on. 22B05STI's build on his car just makes my skin crawl with his ability/time/patience and budget he's working with!

The BG is good. Renewed the 5 month expired tabs and bought a new battery for her this week and we went on a little 5 mile drive yesterday to get the juices flowing again. Within the next month, maybe sooner?, I will strip off all the easy to paint items and start making progress on finally getting it all one color. Kinda sucks just after springing for the tabs and batt but...o'well. In the meantime also need to source the few hundred bucks for paint, clear coat and supplies I'm gonna need. Hardest part is always the $...time, ability and motivation are always far more available. :P

Just some random shots of it all stripped on stands.

This stuff was horrible. I completely stripped off what I had sprayed in the rear wheel well and and now just going with Rustoleum Glass Black. It was stupid to think I wanted a rubberized type spray. Screw getting all fancy....just get it painted!

Pretty happy with how the paint covered. I'll touch up some bare spots if I see them before the tank goes back in. I cant wait till the whole undercarriage is done! Necessary evil for this build though.

Major cleaning, sanding, scraping, brake cleaning and degrease on these before I shot them with High Temp paint.

Waiting to get the rear subframe out of Red85Celica's old car and then I can start piecing together new bushings, a rear diff, adjustable rear lateral links and trailing arms....wheel bearings, H6 brake upgrade....yadda yadda yadda. The list never ends.

I cant do dirty! OCD wont let me. Also just trying to do a little something every chance I get to keep cleaning, prepping and painting. Very little funds available right now so trying to do as much as I can to get ready for when the money is available again to start buying and bolting on! WRX or Outback brakes, EJ20G, 5spd, suspension....yadda yadda yadda. :P

Well..."When in Rome..." As I was updating the 99's page figured I might as well throw up some from the 93 as well.

Wow, some awesome shit happening with this build!

Thanks! And, now that the 99 Wagon will be done this weekend I will have a lot more time to devote to this one.

Hope to have the rear end all back together in the next month.

Yes, I still own this car. No, proceeds from the 99 RHD are not getting dumped into this car. Sorry. :/

*Not using 3.90 trans and diff.
*Not making a hybrid NA EJ22/25.
*Getting the car back on the ground and a roller here in the next month and then the engine bay and body will be tended to.

I have been tinkering although not too much.
