So, finally things are returning to normal for me after returning to Ohio. Still mid-divorce, but the lack of stress is allowing me to focus a great deal more on my hobby. It's time to have fun again.
So, flashback to around 1997 in Reading, PA. Fresh out of high school, and still haven't a clue what to do with my life, I remember seeing these fresh on the lots. No test drives were allowed because the first green one had already been already been wrapped around a telephone pole, and without my current ability to bullshit my way into a test drive it never happened. I certainly couldn't afford the ~26K they wanted for it let alone the insurance. Many years rolled by, Army, DoD, and a couple other fun jobs. I didn't even give it a second thought until last month when I seen one for sale around Pittsburg. So, after striking a deal I traded my somewhat nice running Lincoln Navigator, for a balled up, rusty, poorly maintained, and of course not running black auto coupe. It only took the guy 3 weeks to finally get it over to the house but it's here in all of it's glory. I will be making a 16 year wait to own one, worth it.
He overheated it, attempted a headgasket job, apparently had Ray Charles set the timing marks, and spun the starter. Needless to say it is going to be coming back out to see how bad he bent the valves. The quarters are as expected full of rust, but I couldn't stop laughing at the amount of expanding foam that's also in there. This thing probably floats.
I'll be updating this as I find time to work on it, but with me working 10-12 hour days there probably won't be any of the fun to do stuff done until after the holidays. It's also a good feeling seeing a hood scoop out front and a big spoiler out back :grin:
I had started with my Legacy GT wagon to build a car for One Lap of America, and it was never started due to the whole household warzone thing going on. This will have to do unfortunately... So, over the next couple years expect an EG33, boost, standalone, lots of composite work, and most of all a great deal of seat time at Mid Ohio Motorsports Park. Yes, no matter where I live, I am never farther than 35 minutes from a track haha.
