Well i think its time i start this thread here.
I done TONS of reading and searched for many reports from blackstone labs on T6 (which t6 passes with flying colours). What is everyones opinion on T6. If you have used it what were your conclusions? I have been thinking about making the switch. From my convention 5w-30 oil to the T6.
Loads of subaru owners reports it quiets down our noisy flat 4. Many different car communities praise this oil.
What are everyones opinions on it N/A and turboed?

I used to be a mobil 1 guy, my ej20g would burn about half a quart every 2500 miles so I switched to t6 about three years ago with good results. I have ran that ever since, also it did quiet the engine down some. l eventually just used it in everything else so I could just keep a couple gallons on hand and not have a different oil for each car so not sure how much of a difference it would be on n/a.

I've used T6 in turbo applications and like it. It has a good additive package for sure, with a high zddp content. If you still have a lot of oil consumption after switching to T6, you might end up with issues as the zinc in it could poison your catalyitic converters. But if the consumption is not excessive I wouldn't worry about it.
In the winter, I usually switch to something else though as the cold cranking viscosity is so high that it sounds like your battery is on its way out as it struggles to crank the engine. I switch over to M1 0w-40 in the winter, T6 has a cold cranking simulator viscosity that is 50% higher than the M1, so it is a good improvement to switch for those cold mornings.
I've never used it in an NA application before, but heard results both ways, good and meh. Because it tends to be a more viscous oil you usually will see a slight drop in MPG.

T6 keeps my valves considerably quieter on my Forester (yay high mileage EJ251) vs. 5w-30 synthetic oils that I've used. I like it. Pretty inexpensive for a synthetic as well (I can get it for $21 / gallon around here without a sale usually).
I've had no issues with sub zero cranking on it with my Forester either. I'm considering using it on our Tribeca's EZ36 which cranks fast but takes a bit to catch, so I'd be interested to see how it affects a much larger motor.

Intrestibg input. I also read that the detergents in t6 are a lot stronger and clean out the engine pretty well.some say after first switch to t6 it dirties pretty quick

I run T6 in everything. I've never had a problem with it. I used to have a couple Legacy SS with EJ22T that I used it in as well with great results.
My cars running T6 right now:
99 Legacy GT
01 Outback
85 Chevy C10 with 350
84 Camaro with LS1

I don't know if it helps, but I came across this:

I have a friend that I go to the track with and he only uses the rotella T6 synthetic. I buy it cuz IMHO its the best for the money. But hell I put the recycled oil in my Toyota so I must be crazy.

Something I read recently on the Tribeca forum directly from Shell about T6:
"We do not recommend the Rotella T6 for your Tribeca as the diesel engine anti-wear additives will shorten the life of your catalytic converter(s)."

Yes. The EPA has been regulating how much zinc and phosphorus is allowed in cars that are equipt with Catalytic converters. Rather than changing the T6 formula to accommodate that they simply changed the label to say its for diesel engines. The limitations on the zinc was only recently put in place (last few years) cars got along just fine with the additives before it was put in effect.
In my Subaru I dont have cats but even if I did, I would still run T6 because let's face it... How many cats would u have to replace to equal one engine. Especially a EZ36 in a Tribeca.
You ever pulled a motor from a Tribeca? All I can say is fuck that.

I mentioned it back in December in this thread, but I'll say it again. If you aren't having oil consumption issues you don't have to worry about your catalytic converters. If you have excessive consumption then you are sending some oil down the tail pipe and then the zddp can become an issue for your car.
Then your problem isn't the oil additives poisoning your cats, but the oil consumption, that's what should be focused on at that point.

Fair enough - I did know that about oil consumption - my Forester does consume a small amount of oil, the Tribeca does not as far as the dipstick says. I'm still considering switching to the Castrol Edge 5w-40 European formula for gas engines as it's not much more than T6 on Amazon and you get 5qts instead of a gallon. They also make a 0w-40 that I'd probably consider running in deep winter.
