I have a 99 outback wagon with the EJ25D and 5MT. I was planning on doing a staright WRX swap using the engine, computer, wiring harness, rear diff, and trans from a donor WRX, I found a 03' WRX wagon on craigslist for $3000 with 267k, yes 267 FREAKING K MILES That is way to many miles, for that kind of money. i came to the conclusion that a STi swap, or even a WRX swap is not economically possible for a 16-17 year old working for minimum wage(Somewhere around $8/hr in VT). I'm only 15 now, but I'm already saving. Anyways I was thinking I could get a EJ22 long block, or even the whole engine out of a U-pull yard for under $800 for sure. I could use the heads off my EJ25D, or grab another set at the junkyard, have them decked, and have a valve job done. I could use this ( http://tinyurl.com/ncantod ) header and up pipe, and a TD05 turbo is $240 on Ebay. I could use a generic front mount intercooler, and a r180 LSD. My main concern is the wiring, I HATE wiring. I can figure it out but its just a major pain in the ass. Would I have to get a aftermarket ecu? Can I tune the stock one? Is this whole swap even possible? Thanks for any advice.
