Hey all,
So my cars CEL came on last night when i got on the highway home.
I didnt notice any smells, sounds or changes in oil temp but it was a bit shakey during idle.
I decided to take it in to my dads shop today asap and on the way over is seemed to be doing ok other than the oil temp jumping up at one point and leveling off at normal temp.
I took its nice and slow and now the car has started to make a lawnmower like sound so i pulled in to a parking lot to wait for a tow truck.
Under the hood looks just as it always does and i havent noticed any leaks while sitting here or pulling out of my drive way.
The car is a bh legacy with an ej252, do you guys have any idea what it might be?
Ive been stitting her waiting for a tow for about an hour lol.

Did you pull the codes from the OBD port? That would tell you what is throwing the CEL at least.

We got it back to the shop and it turns out the spark plug on the number 4 cylender came loose and fell out
Not sure if it was just not torqued or if its someing else
I havent had a chance to pull the codes yet though

It fell out? I cannot figure out any circumstance how a plug would fall out of a SOHC engine.. especially since they go in at a 45 degree angle going up...

Sounds like someone who didn't know what they were doing replaced the plugs on that car. I bet it was never torqued properly and may have been cross-threaded where the plug wasn't even in the cylinder properly.

How did you know your oil temp was up?

i assumed the oil temp was ok after the gauge kinda just stopped going between cold and hot and leveled out where it usually sits.
yea we re installed everything and torqued it all down and the car has been running fine for something with almost 250k on it.

edit:
Scratch that shes throwing failed knock sensor codes after being on and warmed up for about 20-30 minuets and stinks of something on start up, granted its like -25 out this morning.
this happened before but the CEL turned itself off by the time I reached a mechanic. not sure if i should be worried or not but to stay on the safe side i'll be replacing the sensors with newer ones.
I tried turning her on again and the smell was gone so I'm guessing that's not something too bad, just a cold start thing.

maybe i can reach 1000000 miles on it oneday lol

Oil Temp Gauge?

Do you have an aftermarket one?
