View Full Version : Bucket Seats all around?

Hey guys,
So I am replacing the carpet in my 2000 legacy wagon and at the same time I am putting in a pair of sweet ass sparco's. But then I had a crazy hair brained idea... what if I put two more buckets in the back and ditch the bench. I was curious if anyone had done it before. Sure it sounds strange but think about it, everyone has their own seat and space, harnesses all around and a nice passage in the middle for my dog to freely travel the vehicle. Any how, feel free to hit me with any opinions and suggestions.

Might be tough to get those rear seats low enough.

Yeah... the floor pan is about 6 inches higher, give or take, then the rear.

This guy put buckets in the back but they were designed for the rear. It would be interesting to see fronts in the back

Yeah, the height could be an issue, I will do some more digging for shorter buckets, thanks paulzy for the pics, it gives me a good idea of what to shoot for.

If you lose the bottom supports from the front buckets you should get short enough but there will be serious fabrication to mount them as there is nothing useful under the rear seat cushion. You have one bolt per side near the floor and one bolt per side at the bottom of the seat back, any other mounting will have to be created.

Honda delsol seats are about the lowest to the floor buckets I've ever seen stock. like stated above though, mounting anything back there will take some fab skills.

Fabrication is no issue. Just takes a bit of imagination and a welder.

Keep in mind that you'll lose some of the function as most buckets don't fold flat. You may want to look into seats from a vehicle that has that folding ability (Honda Fit comes to mind, but they're tall seats, so they probably won't work).

Very true. I haven't had a ton of luck looking for shorty buckets and I didn't even think about the folding. Yet another requirement.

I think the only place I've seen short buckets like that is classics and Jeeps. I know Smittybilt and a few others make low back buckets for 50's-70's Jeeps, like these,

But I don't know if they would actually fold. Honestly, if you're decent at fabricating and willing to pay a little bit for the whole thing, I'd just build a frame for them and have the rest of the seats built by a decent upholstery shop. That's probably the most for sure way to do this kind of project, as long as you have the skills to do it.
It is also very possible to take tall back buckets and cut down the frame and reshape the foam into low backs, I've seen this a few times on classic cars to get modern seats in a classic look. Seems like that may be applicable here too.

I'm very interested to see how this one works out. Myself and a few friends are looking to build one of these, and this would be an interesting bit to add
