:-? AT 135,000 be sure to tighten your flex plate bolts, they will come loose causing a clinging sound from your motor compartment! tighten them with locktight! exspecialy if you get on it off the line alot! ;)

Only automatics have a flexplate.
It's basically the "flywheel" for an auto tranny setup.

Hmmm, good point.
I certainly hope the bolts for the flywheel don't come loose, that would really really really suck.

hey, just a few days ago i had the same thing, it was a clinking sound, i first thought it was a valve noise but figured it out, i brought it to the mechanic to have it looked at and thats when the flexplate broke, while on the lift, now im faced with the difficult challange of maybe fixing it, the car isnt worth having a mechanic do it, so im stuck iwth it myself, anyone have to do anything like this before, do you have any tips?

@ Juggernaut - Was the clinking sound constant, or did it come and go (especially under acceleration)? I've got a similar thing, mine only happens when I step on it, and even then not all the time.

I guess I'll check my bolts tonight.

it was a tick tick tick sound, you could only really hear it until about 2000rpm, prolly got drowned out, the ticking sound increased with the rpms, and if it is your drive plate you'll notice the sound coming distinctively from the back of your engine compartment, near the trans. the sound came and went, actualy stopped for a few days, and i thought it was good, then came back, highly suggest you take action before it goes bad, or you'll be stranded somewhere. at first i thought it was a lifter noise, it sounds similar, but it wasnt,

p.s., im not sure if it was the bolts or the plate itself that broke, hope that helps, i have another post on here somewhere about the driveplate, search driveplate or flexplate, you should find it

Basically: It sounds like a spun bearing or a rod. I got it on two fucking subarus *baw*.


Theres a little window on your engine; which is by the transmisison. Which you can see inside to view the Torque Converter. Basically what would happen is this:

If you hear it at a constant RPM around 2500-3500RPM+, and your oil level is okay then it most likley could be this.

Eh, this would be pretty unlikely to happen unless the engine or trans have been out before. But then again, I'd say almost every EJ25D on this forum has had the head gaskets replaced at least once, which means the engine has probably been out at least once...so yeah.
