That time of year is coming back up on us soon, and after some brief discussions with some of the other members from last year, I wanted to start an Official planning thread here.

We will be meeting this year at the Whole Foods at 10275 Little Patuxent Pkwy, Columbia, MD 21044

The meet will be on April 4th, 2015, and we will start at 11am, and we will see where it goes from there :)

If it's the last weekend in March, I would be out for sure.

I had been talking to Yamazaki about this in the past few months and we are both thinking that April might be better served since we keep getting rain each time. I'm thinking at least mid April.

Oh, if you couldnt tell, I'm planing to come again... haha

im down to go to the mid atlantic meet. april sounds good to me, middle to late april as i will have vacation time and dont have to lose a day of work. ill also be going to school but im sure we can def make something work for this year. itll be my first time going, hopefully.

rkrenicki

April is a possibility, but we will have to come up money to pay for the site fee. That was really the only reason for doing it prior to April.

Either that, or we will have to find another location.

Dead91silvia
01-07-2015, 11:38 AM
Oh, I know. That was one thing we talked about was the cost, but I feel it could be much more fun if we got better weather. If we could figuer out what the cost is and maybe everyone pitch in, it would be pretty cheap.

I need to start looking at airfare again! :smt005

And no, I'm not driving one of my cars over... Unless gas hits $1.50 a gal...

And no, I'm not driving one of my cars over... Unless gas hits $1.50 a gal...

I'll be holding you to that, it might not be all that crazy. We're almost down to $2 in PA. $2.23 on my way to work this morning to be exact.

And yeah, I'll definitely be there.

Regarding costs, keep in mind, we'll likely take up all of the parking spaces (and then some on top of that). I fully expect the park to try to force us to pay for all 3 pavilions there.

Yamazaki

I had been talking to Yamazaki about this in the past few months and we are both thinking that April might be better served since we keep getting rain each time. I'm thinking at least mid April.
The other thing we talked about was if I'll even be here at that time (and with that, a place for you to stay). Well, I finally received confirmation yesterday from my work that I will not be moving in March. So we are clear on that front.

rkrenicki
01-07-2015, 01:08 PM
Indeed! That is one of the primary reasons why I bought this up now and not last month.

Dead91silvia

Maybe we should see how much they are to reserve then.

Even thought it may cost a bit, April will be warmer too.

rkrenicki
01-07-2015, 06:47 PM
Well, here is the issue with paying for the site. We are typically large enough that we take up pavilions E, F, and G. We only use one of the buildings, but all of the cars take all of the spots.

The lower price is for residents of the county. So, we are looking at $450 if Yamazaki does the order, or $540 if someone else does.
- Centennial Park Pavilion E -- $150/$180
- Centennial Park Pavilion F -- $150/$180
- Centennial Park Pavilion G -- $150/$180

So.. long story short, if we do not do it prior to April, we should really look at another site. Perhaps the college parking lot, Yama? It should be pretty empty on the weekend.. Unless their security will have a problem with that..

Muse
01-07-2015, 08:25 PM
If we need to seek another spot, I can bring my little portable grill. it's not much, but it's better than no grill, and no burgers. Also, I'm not sure if my car will make it or not, but I'm gonna save everything I can, to try and make it happen. If not, I'll see about catching a lift with someone... And, yaknow... If I don't have my car, I suppose you could convince me to drive the Blitzen again.

There is another park type thing sort of near by. Its closer to Rubie_25GT 's house. I believe its called Liberty Dam.I just looked it up... it looks really scenic, but there isn't a whole lot of parking available it seems and I cannot find a place to set up for food.

Perhaps the college parking lot, Yama? It should be pretty empty on the weekend.. Unless their security will have a problem with that..I don't foresee security having an issue (they'll come out and see what the commotion is once and then go away), but there isn't much scenery to speak of and it also suffers from not having any tables/benches to set up food/refreshments.

If we don't care about the lack of scenery and we are able to provide our own tables/benches, then that giant parking lot should be more than adequate.
Whatever the weather is will be so much warmer than it is today-0 without the windchill factored into it :shock:It's 14 here, and I still rode the motorcycle to work....

If we need to fall back on a second location I live right beside a state park in southern PA. They have unlimited amount of parking spaces, and is close to the original spot (an hour and 15 min north of last years meet). Here's a link to the website: http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/ ... /index.htm (http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/findapark/codorus/index.htm)

The reason we do it so close to here is because I bring the S401. Since the S401 is unregistered and uninsured, I am not going to drive it very far. If people don't mind not seeing (and if the weather is good, riding in) the S401, then we can have the meet anywhere. This will be the last year for the S401 to make private appearances as well. I do not plan to have it by the fall.

chevyman1968

I kinda agree with moving it forward to nice weather. Although, it was the rain that was annoying not the temps. The park by Chad's place is really nice, but it would be sad not to see the S401 one last time.

Let us start first with a date. I made a poll of every saturday from March 28th to May 30th. Let us all vote for a date, and then we can figure out where based on that.

Feel free to select as many dates as you want. I personally do not care which day it is right now, so I selected them all.

That would be a good place to promote the STi and the S401 for sale Yama! At least bring the S401 to Boxerfest if you would put that in the car show event you would win hands down!

I voted for pretty much any date that didn't fall from mid-April to May 9th. The end of the semester crunch will be occurring around then, as well as...GRADUATION.

Boxerfest is the 25th!

rkrenicki
01-15-2015, 08:59 AM
So, April 4th has a good solid lead, so that will be the date.

I now need suggestions for a location. I am open to anywhere, but closer to Yama's house greatly increases the chances of the S401 being there.

geckoboy86
01-15-2015, 01:56 PM
I'm ok with where it has been in the past.

rkrenicki
01-15-2015, 02:01 PM
I'm ok with where it has been in the past.

The issue with where it has been in the past, is that it will cost about $450 to rent all three pavilions that we end up using. If enough people want to split that cost, then sure.. but I know I personally do not want to foot that whole bill.

We got around that by doing it early enough that reservations are not needed. Since we are talking about April this time, reservations will be required.

What about having it at boxerfest? The parking lots IS the show at these meets. I know most of the people there are driving wrx's/sti's and would not know a nice leggy if it drove over them and that Robin HATES this event-but, the price is right.

Why does he hate Boxerfest? I think we should do it separate. Boxerfest was fun last year, but so is having the SLI meet. Like MRLancaster said, the smaller meet gives you more time to talk to people.

rkrenicki
01-21-2015, 10:57 AM
Separate is the way to go here. Waiting for boxerfest just pushes the date even further back, and I personally do not particularly enjoy hanging out with a thousand WRX-"Bro"s.

01-21-2015, 08:52 PM
They would avoid us-just like at WBM-they wouldn't know a sweet leggy if it ran over them! I suggested it for the site for more of a cost saving measure. I asked Robin if he had gone to big northwest meet-he did-hated it-as we all aware that Leggys are second class citizens-these events give out ONE best leggy of the show-while the imprezas get them for every generation.

I'm local... lived here most of my life. There are LOTS of other parks and pavilions in the area but they all have the same issue come spring time its pay to play. But I can think of some alternate locations and let you guys know... but personally I'm in favor of BEFORE the pay to play stipulations.

Alot less people alot less BS to go through. and I will not be able to contribute to paying for the pavilion eithier as every year i spend more than I should buying food to make sure the event is covered...

xoSubieLegacyxo
02-01-2015, 11:49 PM
I agree that the SLi meet should be separate from Boxerfest. I'm not a typical "wrx/sti hipster" but I do enjoy seeing all makes and models together at one giant event. I can help cover a pavilion cost if we find the right location.

Okay, I have finally updated this thread for a poll on a location. There are a number of large-ish parking lots in Columbia, I have put a number of them here, but I am quite open to suggestions. Once the location is hashed out, I will start a new official meet thread.

Howard Community College Parking Lot
- A very large lot, that should be largely empty on the weekend. This is where the "D-day Photoshoot" took place a few years back. Lots of room, but no toilet or food facilities on site. There are a few restaurants a short drive away (about 1 mile) including a McDonalds, Maiwand Kabob, Subway, Ritas, and Dunkin Donuts.

Whole Foods - Lower Parking Lot
- This lot is right on the lake, and obviously has Whole Foods adjacent to it. Nowhere to cook food, but bathrooms and food will be available in the market. This is also across the street from Columbia Mall, which has plenty of options available as well.

Columbia Crossing
- A nearby shopping center. This has the potential to be quite full as it will be on the weekend. Has a Target, Maiwand Kabob, Famous Dave's and Romano's Macaroni Grill.

We CANNOT do HCC parking lot... I work there they will not tolerate it... but we COULD use the athletic and fitness center parking lot if i work it out with my boss and there aren't other events going on that day. I would offer the use of the AUX parking lot but it may be in use for motor cycle classes as April 4th is a weekend in the spring when those classes start up again.

Whole foods is relatively new in Columbia like last few months new not sure how they are about loitering and car meetup's but again could ask and I think as long as we speak with a manager and purchase food from them it might work out just fine.

Columbia Crossing is a relatively FULL shopping center.

Consider Harper's Choice instead potentially?

there is also a PUBLIC Damn hear where RUBY(Tim) lives which would be a PERFECT meet up spot... he will have to chime in on that

Since I am not from the area, I am basing these options from those who are down there. Yamazaki gave me a number of these suggestions, but I am largely relying on you all for information on these.

I have removed HCC from the list. There are no campgrounds (from your facebook link) that are closer than 25 miles from Columbia. These could be a possibility, but the likelihood of the S401 being there is quite low.

I did a quick search, and are you talking about Brighton Dam, Hinyo?

That seems like it is a decent size. I count at least 35 parking spots from the satellite view on google maps.. I wonder how busy it would be on the weekend with people fishing and the like?

Also, what about bathrooms and grilling?

Very true. Not sure about that. Which was why I suggested a full size lodge. The prices are like 80 bucks for the DAY! so we could grill there and would have bathrooms and could get out of the cold when needed.

You better ask permission on the Whole Food lot.

Here is my recommendation. If you all want to stick with Columbia, I would recommend a kiss and ride lot.

Allot of car meet gathering at this state park
Seneca Creek State Park
11950 Clopper Road, Gaithersburg, MD 20878
http://dnr2.maryland.gov/publiclands/Pages/central/seneca.aspx
Day Use Service Charges: Friday before Memorial Day to Labor Day Monday $4/person; out-of-state residents $6/person. All other times $3/vehicle; out-of-state residents $5/vehicle

Free Entry
Rock Creek Regional Park (Lake Needwood) , Rockville Maryland
Lake Needwood Boat Center (It's inside the park)
15700 Needwood Lake Circle
Rockville, MD 20855

Free Entry. I have held a Car show in the past at this location
Cabin John Park

Seneca Creek State Park is nice. I live near there. We can rent a 50 person shelter for $50 for the day. However, on weekends there is a fee to enter the park. Its $3 for MD residents and $5 for those out of state. I have not been to Needwood in a long time. Cabin John has Montgomery Mall a few blocks away with a food court and some other restaurants.

02-11-2015, 11:38 AM
I can't make it down that weekend, but have you thought about trying to get a bit of corporate sponsorship for the day to help defray some of the costs? I don't know if we have some vendors near there that might want to contribute to the cause.

Just a thought.

Sorry I wont be able to see the S401.

Yamazaki
02-12-2015, 08:00 AM
Regarding location, I turned in the registration and plates for the H6, so I am no longer able to use them for the S401. I am definitely not going on 29, 95, or 100 because of the police presence. I don't want to get stopped again because the police "didn't see a driver". So if it's far from Columbia (meaning I have to get on the highway), I'll probably just show up on the bike and the wife in her Forester.

So I went to Whole Foods.....

The person I needed to speak with wasn't there (apparently), and I was given a name and number. However, even when I called the next day, he was busy. I left my name and number and still haven't received a call back yet.

Having said that, I think it'll be okay because the lot is huge and nobody uses the back area. Also, we would be potential customers for them. Who would turn that away?

I went back AGAIN and was made to just stand there for 15 minutes (with nobody telling me what's going on) just for them to end up saying "oh, the person we told you to ask would just refer you to this other lady. Here is her email address." I'm getting fed up with Whole Foods and their lousy customer service. I'm seriously considering not shopping there any more.

Anyway, I'll send an email to the new contact and see what's up. I may've already changed my mind though... Let's come up with other ideas just in case.

Not looking good for my finances. Had an accident that got me a $132 traffic ticket, (and totalled my work car,) then car taxes caught up with me from my move last year, another $113 there. And I still have to pay a few other debts. Basically, my meager tax return is already gone, and that was what I was gonna use to make the trip. Don't completely count me out, but it's not looking likely.

That sucks. I got a repair order for my 20% tint this morning. Its going to cost me around $200 to get it redone to the legal limit at 35% so I feel your pain.

I feel like we should have the meet at Centennial park as we usually would. We can rent one of the pavilion's there (which are E,F, and G). In my opinion, even if the parking is filled up, no one will care. There won't be anything going on there other than our meet so taking over the lot there is not a problem. Since 98legwag, Hinyo, and myself are residents, it is $150 to rent a single pavilion. If we split that up between all the confirmed people on the list above, it would be $10 or less per person to procure a pavilion. I think that is totally worth it!

Thanks guys! She had her first surgery yesterday and is doing well, but the road will be long as sh still had a lot of it in other organs.

We are doing pretty good as a family. I'm chilling on the porch with my girl and enjoying the low 60's sun... Going to go see my sis in a bit, but I know she needs her rest. I'm sure I'll be over your guys way sometime soon.

With that, I hope you all make this an excellent meet for 2015! It's always something I look forward to, seeing all of you, the progress to your car and always getting to drive another new car. ;) I'm going to start planing the one for the NW/Puget Sound area here soon and maybe we can get the same comradery you guys have over there in the east. ;)

Robin I'm praying for her recovery, and that your family will spend as much time as humanly possible with her. Hah, and when just last night they were predicting snow, rain, and cold all day today, in reality we had a very mild, sunny day where I did some hiking and oil changing.

Damn you spring, the weather is just too unpredictable to take any forecast more than a day out seriously. Still keeping fingers crossed/making sacrifices to rain gods for a dry meet though!

One major issue with this is that not everybody wants to pay money to have a meet. And if they do pay the entrance fee, they'd rather be going around and seeing everything than spending it doing something they could do for free.

I, for one, don't plan to go to Boxerfest again. I didn't feel like I got my money's worth and I don't like large crowds.

I think it'll be in May again. April is just too cold (as we discovered the first two years of the meet).
The location will be the same. Whole Foods has food, bathrooms, ample parking, and no problems with us being there.

Let me rephrase that:

For the people who are attending Boxerfest we should arrange to park together and have a cookout in the parking lot.
