Hey, guys! I just got done doing a wrx swap on my friends 99 LGT and got really envious and want a turbod car once again! Just got done rebuilding my 2.5 SOHC for my 01 LGT. It has been bored 20 over and has ACL rod bearings installed. My question is, would it be safe to slap a turbo on here? I wouldn't be pushing anymore than 5lbs of boost because it is my daily driver. Also, I do not molest my car at all when driving so it won't be beaten to death with a turbo on either. Basically, I am asking how safe and reliable would it be to put a turbo kit on my car with how it is (of course after it is well broken in)? And would I need a tune? Or since I'm at only around 5psi will the ecu correct it itself?
Thanks,
Matt.

Totally possible and a tune will most likely be needed. You can convert to a WRX ECU our do a standalone, your ECU is not tunable as-is.

You might want to consider supercharging too, less exhaust fabrication with that setup.

Doing it on your daily us always a risk, getting a cobbled turbo kit to install and run well in a weekend is a tall order.

At 5 psi you should not have any problems on a smaller turbo (tdo4), timing and fuel will be fine. If you start pushing past 6 psi you ll start running out of fuel and after 7 you be kicking codes for your stock map sensor. I have a friends that has had a turbo kit I built for him on his 99 rs (ej251 as well) with 6 psi for over 20k miles with no negative effects.
