Is 17.1 normal???

I don't know how many people here have run their 99 legacy's but I ran my wife's a few weeks ago and ran between 17.1** & 17.2** I only ran 17.0 once! Is this normal for having an automatic 2.5?

Current mods: (Pretty much stock)

cone intake filter
2.5 catback
fuzion tires

Sounds about right. If I ran my stock 91 Legacy, I'd expect around 18 seconds.

hell no! :lol: it's my wife's I just expected it to be in the mid to high 16... it's more of a "look good car"!

how hard were you launching? a 2.3 is a horrible 60' time for a fwd car... let alone an awd car. if you launched harder, you'd see 16's easily.

Were you pre-loading the tranny? (holding down the break and the gas at the same time, then releasing the break on the green light?)

That is how they test the automatic to 60 @ Subaru. It's not so good for the transmission though.

Yes I have done it many times and it never gets past 17.0 I hold the gas to the floor and when the green light comes I pull fast off the brake! anymore suggestions? :cry:

If you really wanna loose a little time, take out your back seat. I drove mine without it for a while, and it was slightly, but noticably quicker from a stop. might give you that tiny edge without too much work. It only took me about 20 minutes to get it out, and I've got a '95 2.2L 4eat sedan.

I did that once, took out everything in my trunk (I had 2 12" subs in a heavy box with a huge amp) Take out spare and jack. I took out the rear and passenger seat. The car was peepy and seem to handle a little better.

Take as much weight as you can out of the car. Including yourself (if you're a hefty person). Get better tires, lighter wheels.

Drag times in their basic form are simply a physics calculation - if you apply the same force (engine) to a lighter object (weight loss) you will move faster.

But then again, why are you drag racing your wife's car? :lol:

damn...when i autoX i can take out my passenger seat, back seat butt coushin, back seat back, and spare in abou 15 minutes.

it's only a total of 9 bolts for cryin' out loud

Can't be. Its just foam! I took mine out awhile back, it's not as heavy as a small child.

no, the back has to be rigid (keep in mind that i have the 60-40 fold down split) to support your back, and there's the metal frame that goes around the trunk opening.

Yes, I understand that, mine also has the 60/40 split opening, but no way is that rear section 40lbs.

You're making between 115 and 120 whp. That's pretty much a bone stock legacy or less. My guess is that cone intake filter is costing you power. It's probably sucking in some pretty warm engine bay air unless you have a realyl good one. How hot was it when you ran the car? That'll cost you some power too.

weight loss is the cheap way to go. i suppose if you were really motivated and didn't mind being warm, you could take your interior door panels out too. All 4 of them weigh less than 30 lbs. though, dunno how much that would help.
