R180 swap axle issue

Ok, if this has been asked before I apologize, I have searched and not found my answer. I have a 98 legacy outback that I swapped using a 2004 Forester XT drive train. I am now upgrading to an 2005 STI transmission and R180 and have bought Suberdaves conversion races. My issue is that my rear CV shafts are too long and cause the differnital to bind up. I need to know what everone has used to complete their swaps. I used a set of 22 spline shafts from an 2006 wrx to make my hybrid rear axles. Thanks in advance for any help in getting my car back on the road.

Stock ride height? lowered? you may need to swap the rear axles for impreza (non WRX) or L model Legacy units. The WRX and Outback both utilize longer axles due to the lift. When I lowered my car with WRX struts, I quickly killed the front outer driveshaft boots due to them being compressed.

Your other option would be to use WRX lower links in the rear, you will gain back the distance needed for the longer axles, and also get better camber out of the rear end. With my car on STI struts and RCE black springs, my rear camber is at Zero. I will be doing a set of the adjustable lateral links and adding a whiteline roll center kit when I rebody my car.

Lowering an outback causes all sorts of suspension headaches unless you do the fun job of pulling all the spacers, changing the transmission xmember, trailing arm mounts and steering column.

Post up a little more information on your complete drivetrain/suspension setup and it would be easier to point you in the right direction.

Yes the vehicle is lowered on BC coilovers. The issue is that the R180 is 1in wider and in need shorter axles . So adding the longer arms will not work with my wheel setup , it would cause my wheels to hit into the body. So what does everyone else do when they do this swap? I know several people have done this. Thanks

yeah, you need to ditch the outback/forester rear axles and get the shorter impreza/legacy L axles. Or you can go the dirty route and shorten your axles by cutting out what you need, then using a tube welded on the outside.

Which legacy axles will work?

You should be able to use bg non outback axles, WRX wagon axles, impreza non turbo axles 95-2007
