How long have you had your Legacy?
And second question. How long do you think you will keep your Legacy?
I admit. I'm starting to feel the tug of finding another car. It is probably because some things are in need of repair.
Approaching my 14th or 15th year of owning this BD sedan.

I have owned my 98 Legacy since October of 2010 So about 4.5 years. Best car I have ever owned hands down. Even though she is totalled, I am going to fix her just because. I love my car so much, I own 4 of the damn things now.

Holy balls. I thought I had my Impreza for a long time (since 2005).
I've had the S401 the second longest (since 2008).

Both of the cars I mention above are for sale despite being the only cars I own that don't need any repair/maintenance... I just want to move on. All the other cars I own have only been for 3 years or less, so I don't feel the need for a change of pace as much with them.

Weekend I got it...

I've had my GT-B since December 2012... Plan to sell it soon to move on to other cars I want. This was the plan the whole time.

I got my 98 wagon in October of 2006 and my 09 3.0R in September 2013. Both are sticking around for the foreseeable future.

I got my BD on March 14, 2009. I got my BLE on July 2, 2013.
My BD had an amazing engine but its body was giving out. I put over 55k on her.
I plan to keep my BLE much longer then what I had my BD for.

I got my wagon in October '07 from the original owner, a family friend, with 65k miles on the clock. I'm on my second engine (milage unknown) with a hair over 225k miles on the body and trans now.

Due to it always being in Ohio it has been exposed to salty winters its entire life and as such pretty much every bolt on the underside and engine bay is rusty and flaking. It is also starting to have electrical issues that I just don't care to hunt down and fix since every time I fix something, something else goes wrong. A replacement is planned for spring, stay tuned...

My current Legacy, I have had for just over 3 years now. I have no intention of ever getting rid of it, it will likely go to my daughter when she is old enough to drive in a few years, and I will probably pick up either a 4th gen or a 6th gen at that point.

Yeah, I have noticed that as well. All the ones I find are $1500 after shipping and beat to hell. The search continues. in the mean time, I am about to hack up a GT bumper to see how good I can make it look

Well change is averted.
The shop I go to I was waiting for has an opening. Car is going in Saturday.
Transmission is going to be repaired.
New GT30R rotated turbo is going in. New custom bumper. I'll probably have the coilovers rebuilt.
She will be better than ever in a few months.

I had my Outback 8 years (after it had been owned by my dad for 11!)
I have had my Forester for 2 years and counting, but I see a newer Subaru in my future sometime in the next year.

Legacy: Almost a year. Don't think I will keep it for more then 5 years.
CLK: 7 years but I will be swapping it for a SUV in 2 years or so.
Integra: 16 years.

I have had my 2010 Legacy GT limited since it was new in spring of 2010. It replaced my 1985 GL-10 XT with over 400K miles as my daily driver but I still drove it every once in awhile till last summer when I sold it. The fellow who bought it drives it every day and tells me the car was a bargain. Hope the 2010 will last as long!

My lifted 91 SS is the Subaru I've hung onto the longest. Bought around 98-99 with 75k on it, it's been stock, lowered, lifted, and now really lifted with 250k on her. I toy with the idea of selling it sometimes....but for all the work and memories are in that car, it's always for an unrealistic price. Lol.

It's so very hard to let go of a first gen leggy-they got them right out of the box-that's why I hate my second gen, only a "keeper" because she's got a 2.2!

(OK, trying to post this for the 3rd time. If it doesn't work, I'll give up!)
I leased my Legacy (red 2000 GT/5-speed manual) new 15 years ago this week. Bought it at the end of the lease three years later. Customized it with the facia and foglights from a 2003 Outback (minus the foglight grilles.) The parts guy at the Sub dealer said: "it looks like a body kit on the car!" 220k miles and needs another new facia (because snowbanks) and a transmission (4th gear gone and the rest are making a lot of noise.) Runs and drives nice otherwise. Plannning to keep it forever, but need some advice on transmission replacement. I'm getting quotes in the $2500-3000 range for the job and that's not in the budget. Any suggestions?

Were you having some sort of issue with posting? I do not see anything in the logs that seems like a problem, but I would like to know what your issue is/was.

That seems a bit high to me.. I have had subaru transmissions replaced for under $1300 all said and done.. but that question would be better asked over in the transmission forum instead of in this thread. I encourage you to reask the question over there, as it will get more eyeballs on it than here.

I know what you mean. The second gens have always felt like throw away cars to me. I know there not, but they were made in that era of the "Neon". Basically the same underpinnings of the first gen, but with a cheap plasticy card bored interior.
Seemed like all the auto makers were into that reliable but production cost cutting phase.

I've owned my '03 for 9 years now.
Bought it in '06 with 30k on the odometer and drove it daily until '09 when it rolled 100k. I've had a company vehicle ever since and it's been my weekend vehicle. It currently has 118k on it and in the last year I've done the head gaskets, timing belt and all other regular maintenance. With that being said, I plan to keep it another 10 years. It's been, hands down, the best car I've ever owned. And, now that I have a truck as well, I've got the itch to lower the Legacy with H&R springs and maybe upgrade the wheels & tires. What do you think I should do?

I have owned my 91 legacy wagon since summer of 2001, but the car has been in the family since new. my parents owned the car till it rolled up 107k and I have put the rest of the miles on it and most of the dents lol. Its about to trip over 191k this week, and is my favorite car to drive as a daily driver. One of the other guys here got it right when they said Subaru hit the motherlode right out of the box on these cars. I intend to drive this car for the rest of my days. I have no reason to believe it wont do another 15 or 20 years with reasonable care. 20 years will make me 83. Updates done so far are window tinting and wheels and tires. Put 205/50-16 Sumitomo all season tires on it and it drives like a different car. This coming week, it gets new exhaust, maybe suspension if time permits. Have new GR-2 struts to go on it and have a set of 2009 WRX springs that I may try for fit. If anyone knows what I can expect from the spring swap, please fill me in. Its total guesswork on my part right now as to what they will do. My desire is to lower the car slightly but if spring rates are wrong from the wrx I would just as soon stay stock. I have a new 24 mm whiteline rear bar to go on it while I am under it, but am a bit unsure how that is going to fit. The end of May the car goes in the body shop for a total exterior facelift, meanwhile I have new floor mats and cargo area mats ordered for it to dress up the inside. Upgrades to the rather anemic audio system are in the planning stages. have already acquired a pair of 10" subs and am looking for an appropriate sized vented box for them to go in. The plan is augment the decent factory head unit with additional amplification, put new speakers in the factory spots and add the subs. I have a substantial music collection on my phone or tablet that I can play through the auxiliary input on the factory head unit. I am sure I have left some things out but that gives a pretty fair picture of the plans for the car. With luck it will be one of the best and cleanest first gen rides in this area. It amazes me how tight the body is after all these years.
I've owned my '95 wagon since June of 2013. bought it with no rear window, a mysterious coolant leak (Which was claimed by the seller to be "Probably a head gasket, they all do that, but I don't know,") FUBAR'd exhaust and the full intention to use it as a parts car for my artificially-FWD former '95 wagon. Then, after some investigation, I decided it would be easier to get the silver car in shape than the old one.
I never intended for this one to be my lifelong car, but it is my favorite year of Legacy, and is acting as a parts bin / testbed for when I can find a better body to swap things into. I recently had to put about a grand into the engine, so I'm planning on either keeping it for some time, or finding a car with a blown motor that will accept this one, because I am not wasting all that work.

This is Joey. 1996 Outback. Twentieth birthday this month, turned 215k miles yesterday and owned 15 years this month. Regular maintenance but still on the original struts; actually too many original parts to count. Usually you'd only see him in the background of pictures of my '97 L wagon but Joey will always be my sentimental favorite and can't imagine selling him. Also, that's not me in the picture.:D

Boy am I late to this game...
2000 Legacy wagon purchased last January. Picked it up on February 6th at 96,xxx miles. I plan on keeping this car at least 10 years, if not longer. Its the right combination of new enough to be modern but not so new that it requires special equipment to troubleshoot and diagnose.
