Need to Slow Fill my 97 Legacy Outback.

Recently I had replaced the fuel tank on my 97 L.O. (I had a leak around the fuel filler neck which rusted away) My uncle and I found that a 98 Forester's tank was the same as the L.O. so we scooped it up for $75, needed a coating of rocker guard, but it was in great shape, fixed up some fuel lines, put the new filler neck (which was previously replaced)in, and the leaking gas ended.... what began was a new nightmare for me, slow filling the tank.

In order to fill my tank, I have to slightly squeeze the trigger so that only a small amount of fuel will make it's way through. At the rate I have to fill it, I'm putting in a dime per second. To fill right from empty, can take me close to 25 mins.

Now that the weather has begun to get more tolerable, I can handle it, I don't want to deal with another brutal winter slow filling it.

We have checked the filler tube, there are no kinks, the vapour return hose is not kinked nor pinched, there is no blockage, what is the general opinion as to what is wrong?

If it comes down to finding another fuel tank, what is the cheapest way to get one?

Please help... I'm at my wits end with this.

This should probably be in the technical section...

The only thing that really pops into my mind is something clogging or has damaged the anti-siphon valve/mechanism/device. I wish I knew more about then on our cars but the fact is I have no idea what type of anti siphon device is on the car.

If I were in your shoes I would take a grinder and cut that tank open so I had a better under standing of the tank. Then I would post pictures on here because they might help someone else.

The only thing my FSM says damaged, clogged or Damaged breather tube... But you said that you replaced them..

I had this same problem on both my BDs and in both cases it was a clogged breather tube. First one was a spiders nest. If youve already replaced them or at least blew them out with a compressor, maybe try checking the vent control solenoid? I'd still triple check the breather again though .

My BH is kinda the same. When filling it, the pump will just shut off at random. My solution is to just not stick the nozzle all the way in. That seems to fix it.
