My 4EAT in my 96 outback is starting to give me trouble, so I'd like to swap it out for a 5MT when I eventually end up pulling it out. Most of the threads I've read on this swap have involved keeping 4EAT components in order to maintain idle speed, etc. However, is there any way I could do a complete factory swap if I had a GT donor? If so what would I need?

Yea but it would be a pain in the ass. I just wired the important shit up and called it good.

Complete bulkhead wiring swap, complete pain in the ass. I wired up what I needed to function and that was it.

Exactly.. The wiring for th 5speed swap is seriously like 5 wires.. It is about the easiest wiring thing you can do on our cars. It literally took me longer to install my stereo then the actual 5 speed wiring took. Dont make things more complicated just to be complicated. If you really wanted to go all crazy, I would say re-pin the cruise control module and tie back the unused wiring, and do the same for the clutch switch/backup lamps.

Thanks for the replies, I didn't realize exactly HOW easy the wiring was going to be. This is definitely on my summer to-do list now!
