HISTORY

Well, long ago I should do this, but I did not dare... For a while I was updating the thread of my presentation but I understand that it was not appropriate. My BG4 was built in Gunma, Japan ... But far from the performance of "JDM vehicles", because unfortunately is FWD.
I knew nothing of Subaru, came into my hands by pure chance ... Still, I was intrigued by their comfort ... It's a fast car (Im a normal driver), and I feel safe in it. As I mentioned in my presentation, a guy crashed his truck and smashed my car, but I did not suffer damage ... This car has a market value of $ 5,000, so I demanded a judgment against the driver and won $ 5,000.

One, as a human being, tends to give love to machines ... That car saved my life, then it was time for save his life. A friend told me about the look "GT", he was talking about the model "USDM BG9 2.5GT". When I started to walk the junkyards, I noticed they had pieces that were "Non USDM". I went to the Internet, and discovered "JDM BG5 GT-B" this was "love at first sight", lol. I began to search for videos on YouTube, I found the commercials, with Mel Gibson and Rod Steward using the BG/BD Legacy ... I could not believe lol...

Then, it was time to figure out the "why" we had JDM parts in Chile. Here are just a one company dedicated to selling Subaru, the most basic models were brought from Japan: LX AWD MT/AT (the most basic) and GL FWD and AWD MT/AT (Semi-equipped). For more equipped models came from USA, the AWD 2.2LSI and AWD 2.5GT models ... On request, was brought AWD 2.2GX and AWD 2.5GX the latter was equipped with Heigh Control, Digital climate control, heated seats, Pet Guard, headlamp washers, identical to the German model (Ultra expensive, so I was never see one on the streets ☹ ). Nevertheless, there is a region in the north (Zona Franca = Free Zone), where people can import vehicles, without paying taxes. These vehicles can be come from USA or Japan, in the case of the Japanese, should be a conversion of the wheel, so they are as LHD. These vehicles may not leave that area can only go out with special permission to "vacation days". A JDM BG5/BH5 can be purchased for 1,000 dollars ... These people purchase vehicles to Japan for much less money, and sell engines for that price to which we are outsiders ... The junkyards here, are with huge trucks, they go north and returned with STI engines, Twin Turbos, BG5 parts, everything ... And we sell them at prices they can become very high .. but that's the business, so that's the explanation I needed.
Note:If someone in the Free Zone, try to selling a vehicle, illegally, can go to jail for 7 years and more. But, if that person has lived and worked for more than five years and decides to leave the region, you can go with 1 car, that it is reasonable to their economic capacities.. Then he can sell his vehicle after 2 years :-/

My car is FWD (Why God!! :-( Why??) 2.0i with HOLD AT and Power Mode. The rear brakes are with drums (without calipers, like front), and there is more to highlight that. It comes equipped with manually folding mirrors, it brings air conditioning as yours, and de USDM "L" foglights, Thin side molding doors, clear tail lamps, with "Subaru" in the garnish, and humpbacked roof. Not equipped with cruise control, Airbags, nor ABS...

Well, I can not make a replica of a BG5 JDM GT-B (I dont want a "race car"), because my car is LHD, so I need JDM Parts, and USDM and EDM too, for my purposes. Here is the list of changes:

FUTURE AND UNLIKELY MODIFICATIONS

Sunroof and Moonroof: A junkyard, sell the entire roof 100% functional for USD 300, but I have to cut and weld these roof to my chassis... Its a crazy idea, but more important, its a expensive idea...

Cluster: My current cluster is only one indicator light to "open doors". I have a saved Cluster, this is have indicator light for all doors, separately, like yours ... Also has a "240 km/h STI Speedometer", but it has white color and three-pin plug, my car has five-pin plug blue color ... I read a thread here in SLI, where someone made a "plug adapter" I tried are able to contact him in the thread, but the guy did not respond

Well in the last months i purchased this stuff:

Kakimoto Regu 92z, non installed
Michelin MX Pilot 225/45R17
17X7 GT-B Alloy Wheels with golden paint
GT-B Front and Rear Seats with Pet Guard, but the arm rest its without cup holder :-(

709
710

I needed to do a little transformation in the Japanese left passenger seat: I had to disassemble my left pilot's seat, to extract the frame ... I did the same with the Japanese seat, I dismounted and removed the frame, to compare differences:
The Japanese frame has different metal supports for containing the cushion. It also has a higher bar to give sporty look to the seat.

I measured, and have done blue marks, for transplanting parts of Japanese passenger seat, toward my pilot's seat. I required for this task, specialized staff.

RHD Letf Passenger's Seat Frame:
712

LHD Left Driver Seat Frame: (Without central ugly supports)
711

LHD Left Driver's Seat Frame, Frankenstein version:
713

To be continue...

Well, i have the front seats installed. I must keep my seat's lock-belt (Rigid seat belts extension) , because the jdm is different. I dont want spend money on the jdm seat belts... Tomorrow i will study the installation for the rears, because have minor differences with mine...

New exterior look:
714

New front seats:
715
716

The rear jdm seat, is partitioned in two pieces, each with two anchors... Mine is one piece and just two anchors... I need drill the chassis and put a nut outside for the second anchor :smt017

Cool build! I think many of us take what we have available to us for granted. Sadly, I have scrapped auto transmissions all the time because they are worth nothing over here since we have so many. But I will say, your car is coming together very nicely.

Your car is so clean. I wish it didn't cost an arm and a leg to ship a JDM bumper here.

Thanks!! My wishlist not finished yet, but one day... For now I do the best with the car, according to my possibilities, life and wallet.

Do you have any pic of your GT-B without roof panel? I need install the brackets/supports for the Pet Guard.. Or someone for here and there?

Yeah... The Japanese people also, discovered that we "the rest of the world" loves the second gen legacy parts... Buy to Japan is very expensive in this days :-(
The same with the NZ vendors

No I dont. Not sure what you would need for it to work.

Ideally, I would to drill the roof panel without having to remove it.
For this:
I need to know where are the holes in the chassis for mounting the gray brackets (4 but i have only 2) .. those that hold the pet guard when it is used.
Knowing how far away from the nut that holds the seat belt.

With the change of front brake pads, came an improvement in my rear brakes, I changed the old drums, for discs. The donor was a Subaru Impreza WRX.
Besides, I made a change in seals on the front brakes.

Sadly the front door does not have the woodgrain switch bezel, like the rear... So will keep the black bezel for simetric visual...
