So I have been thinking of doing this for a long time and finally got a scoop and some balls to cut up a hood.

I would rate this job as a 3 from 1-5 If you are not mechanically or dont have any autobody experienced, this might be a little past your ability's.

This was about a 2 hour job for me with a hand full of standard tools. Never mind the used up grinder wheel.. haha
-Right hand tin snips
-Left hand tin snips
-Chanel Locks
-a couple files
-Sharpy (not shown)
-Cut off wheel
-tape
-and a mini hackzal =)

I got a carbon scoop from Ebay UK for a GC Impreza. Not the best cast, but wored great for this mod.

Line it up where you want it... keep in mind you want to make sure the lines are not off. It can make a lot of work for you or just not look right when it's all done.

You can see where the body line of the Impreza hood is supposed to be, but meh...

Oh, I forgot, I did use the retainer panel for the stock GC vent to bolt the scoop down. Just need to cut it to fit the scoop hole.

So there you go! Much more to come with the hood, but this is a little mod just about anyone can do if you take you time. ;)

Rad! Really excited to see which car this goes on. Off center hoodscoops. Always liked em.

Is that the plan here? Or mimic gc hood on both sides?

Looks Great, The only thing I would watch is when you close the hood. You trimmed out a fairly hefty section of the under frame along the edge right near the crush zones. Try and minimize any twisting you do to the hood, slamming it, and when you open the safety lock, pull up on the side opposite of your installed part to reduce the chance of buckling your hood where the inner support has been cut out. But yeah, it really adds some attitude to the hood.

No, I will not be doing the left side. The scoop is there for looks, but also use. The other side will not work for my OCD of having lines match.

Valid point, however, the hood bracing where it is will be fine. It's far enough from the center crumple zone that the only thing that will affect it is getting hit in the front. Also, when you pull up on your hood when opening, it should be right where the latch is.

Either way, it far enough from the center of yhe hood that it will not affect it from being a victim of a buckle. That being said though, I might actually weld some extra stuff in there. Like I said, this hood is getting a lot more crazy work done in time. I like to experiment with things and this went much better then expected. So far I have 2 hours and $110 invested. Better then going to the casino or the bar. ;)

No doubt, and had I bothered to look and see that you actually posted this, I would have kept my mouth shut. But having worked in body shops for 20+ years, maybe good info for someone who has no fab experience to know before they cut up a hood and wonder WTF they did when they trash it. Also, you would be surprised at some of the things I have watched people do.....

Looks great though, your OCD and mine seem similar. If I did this, I would go with fiberglass, and shape to remove the bodyline hump and spray it black! lol.

Always awesome stuff from you.

HAha... Yeah, most of the time I do something, it's something that should be sound. I dont like cutting structure out, but to do this the wany I wanted, I had no other choice. I still might weld a gusset in, but I havent started my other bit of modding to this hood, so that will come later. And yes, I do agree. I've been in the autobody industry for about the same amount of time. The stuff I still see (like welding a bumper to a frame because they lost the bolts) blows my mind. haha...

I'll be doing a LOT of welding on this hood in the coming weeks. It's definitely an out of the box project for me, but I wanted to try something different and maybe motivate others to have some fun! :)
