Ebay intake, cone vs. box

ok, i had a ebay intake from a member on SLI, can't recall name..maybe jakmobile? but ya....i got the intake and modify it to work on my gt. about a week ago, i changed the ebay filter to my stock box. just alittle twist here and there. i noticed that I ACTUALLY LOST POWER! is it me or what....so this is a ebay filter vs. stock box w/AIR HOG FILTER :roll:
has anyone did this and felt a loss, i was planning on putting the ebay filter back on but the rain in MN is pouring these couple of days :evil:

Its the surface area that a cone filter has compared to a panel filter. The more surface area equals more area for air to enter. If you were to put the open element filter and block out the heat with a heat shield box, you would notice the most gains. Might just have to tough out not having the power until the water subsides.

Most of that is probably butt-and-ear dyno.

Meaning, no matter what you think, it is not a very precise way of charting change.

The Airhog panel filter, I'll bet, has deeper, louder growl.

Realistically, the difference is 1 or 2 hp, either way, which is scientifically minimal.

It could also be where air is being supplied. I know towards 4800RPMs and up my engine gets completely breathless and starts to lose power or atleast plateau. So maybe the cone gets you power in areas you drive more and so it feels more powerful.

I have a cone filter, I won't bother throwing the air box back on. When I do my swap I won't have the airbox from the WRX either.
