Will Impreza Cam Gears Fit a Legacy EJ22 SOHC?

Hey everyone,

I have a 97 Subaru Legacy Outback with an EJ22 SOHC engine. I found these Impreza cam gears, will the teeth match up?

Ah, okay.
Do you know of any light weight cam gears that will fit my engine?

The cam gears on the SOHC cars are usually pretty light from the factory, but if you do find one to buy make sure the cam triggers on the back match the one you are replacing otherwise your engine will be all out of whack.

Yeah, the stock cam gears are pretty light, and they look good too I think.
Cam triggers? What are those?

If you look at the back of the cam on the drivers side of the engine, there will be little marks on the cam, as well as your crankshaft sensor. As your motor is turning it picks up these marks and lets the ecu know when to supply spark, fuel, etc in perfect timing with the crank.

Oh okay, I know what your talking about. Good tip, I'll be sure to check that if I find any cam gears that fit.
