I think my 2004 legacy L-s wagon has developed a misfire at around 180,000. I installed new denso plugs in the spring, but not the wires.

I drove home from work on Wednesday night without any issues. On Thursday morning, I started it up, and it started to shake, while in park. The check engine light started to flash. . I haven't had the chance to do more than pull the engine codes. P0301 and P0302.

I haven't driven it since. I started doing some research but I found conflicting opinions.

I think the first thing I should do is pull pull the airbox and battery, and move the wire from front to back to see if the problem moves with it.

Test 1: secondary resistance at the coil is 11.85 k ohms between electrode 1 and 2. It is 11.65 k ohms on electrode 3 and 4.

Test 2: measure resistance of each wires.
Results :resistance is about the same for plug wires 2 and 4. 5.05 k ohms.

Test 3: swap wires 1 with 3, and 2 with four. Also check oil level. Oil level is not reading on stick.
Unfortunately, I added some oil at the same time I swapped wire. I'm not sure which fixed. It could have been loose wires or Low oil.

Not doing good now. It was 2. 5 quarts low. I filled it up. now it won't stay running, no fault codes.
It dies with engine idle. I can keep it going by slightly pressing on the throttle.
I killed the battery with the restarts. With another battery, it still won't idle without pressing the gas peddle.

I'm at a loss for what's wrong.

The low fuel light is on, I'll start with adding fuel.

Added 3 gallons of fuel to the tank. No change.

I was able to get it to a local garage. I'll see what they say tomorrow.

Resolved. I took it to a garage. They replaced the coil. I took it for a drive, and it goes without any issues.
