Okay so I'm in the middle of rebuilding my '99 EJ25D Dohc engine, when I was tearing it down one of the cam cap bolts had been stripped so I welded a nut to it and got it out. After welding the bolt I than needed to get a new one after going to the dealership and finding out I had to buy the set for both heads ($280) I said screw it and went to picknpull. I found a '96 Ej25D Dohc and pulled the cam cap bolts out. After getting back to the shop the next day, I found out they are different, the ones I pulled are skinnier. From what I've read all 2.5 dohc are supposed to have the same bolt.

I was wondering if anyone has an idea on what's going on and what cars I'd be able to get cam cap bolts from? Also I was wondering if it would be safe to use the cam cap bolts I have to drive temp until I find the proper one? Otherwise I'll grind the nut off and use the bad one until I get one in the next few days. I'm running out of free shop time so I can't leave the car unassembled:(

I say go with the skinnier bolts and just loc-tite them in, should work fine until you get the right size bolts.

Just remember to use the RED Loctite, blue is only medium hold but red is where its at.

The skinnier bolt won't even thread into the head. You need a bolt from a 97-99 25d head.
