G'day Lads,

Names Shaz from Sydney, Australia. I'm a regular on Subyclub.com (Like that shady barbachello guy...). Bout this car off a member of the club, who bought it off another member of the club that done alot of the work to it. He done an amazing job so the maintenance and little bits and pieces are left for me.

So this is my 97 Subaru Outback. I wouldn't hesitate to rate it in the very top percentage of the BG population in terms of how mint this car is. The car was owned by an elderly couple and is 100% original. Its NEVER missed a service from new and always serviced at Subaru right up until 6000kms ago. Every repair recommendation on a service was fixed at the next service with reports to prove it. Has just had the motor out with new rear main seal, crank seal, cam seals and rocker cover seals and timing belt done also.

Engine:
Standard EJ25D
4 layer metal headgaskets fitted and all seals, water pump, timing belt, etc replaced.
Power steering pump and alternator just completely rebuilt.

Transmission:
JDM Version 6 STi 4.44 5 speed manual conversion. 80k on box, 10K on clutch. 4.44 Outback auto diff.

Brakes:
'11 Forester XT 2 pot 294mm front brakes with Bendix GCT pads and oem rotors. Pads only just fitted and rotors machined.
'06 Liberty GT 1 pot 290mm rear brakes with new oem pads and oem rotors.
Both calipers just stripped and refurbed in Brembo gold.
Goodridge braided lines all round.

Wheels / tyres:
SSW 18x7.5 +35 with 215/45/18 Falkens,

Suspension:
Car completely de-lifted to Liberty spec using all oem parts.
JDM GTB Bilstein struts and springs.
Whiteline 20mm adjustable rear swaybar.

Exhaust:
GC8 WRX exhaust manifold.
Custom 2" mandrel bent stainless steel centre pipe with stainless steel Magnaflow resonator.
Fujitsubo Legalis diff back.

Exterior:
JDM projector headlights. de-oranged with chrome bulbs and Philips Crystal vision low beam and parker globes. Lenses are 100% crystal clear with zero yellowing. They have NOT been reconditioned.
Custom black grill with color coded badge
Legacy Turbo bonnet
Oem moulded mudflaps
Legacy tailgate spoiler
Brand new rear bumper protector
Clear lens fog lights with Philips 3000K globes and brand new oem fog light grills

Interior:
Gen3 Legacy GTB front seats retrimmed to match oem leather / suede combo (at a cost of $2000)
'01 JDM Forester STi steering wheel - mint condition.
V6 STi shift knob - mint condition
New leather shift boot
WRX alloy pedals
Legacy floor mats
Legacy cargo tray
Legacy instrument cluster gauges (original one supplied also)
Legacy puddle lamps

Stereo:
Sony X plode HU 6 Clarion speakers from an '00 Legacy GTB.

Plans? Not really sure yet. Its almost too nice to modify. Perhaps a bit lower. Turbo conversion? Might do, but it would just be something like a v3 STi refurbed to stock specs, as this will be my daily driver and work car so needs to be reliable.

Sony XAV 65BT today, double din, with reverse camera, bluetooth, all the jazz. Cleaned up all the wiring behind the dash (Not that there was much to clean), ran the camera wire along with the stock wireing harness that runs to the rear tailgate, etc.

Not a perfect fit, but pretty good for first go. I'll have a play around with the fascia fitment over the next few weeks. Reverse camera mounted up under the rear tailgate where the handle is, just off to the passenger side. Didn't have to drill any holes (Used the existing number plate light grommets)

Took the car down to mums place yesterday and when I got home, I smelt a very slight coolant smell. Saw 1 drop of coolant on the ground, so done some investigating this morning. Looks like a small crack in the radiator side tank. I'm so happy I bought this radiator pressure tester kit when I had my GTiR, made looking for a water leak literally a 5 min job.

I ended up buying a radiator from Fenix Radiators (NZ Company http://www.fenixradiators.com.au/) They seem to be of pretty good quality, and the reviews I went through over the past few days all seem pretty on the money. 2 year warranty. Anyway, see how it goes when it gets here. Going to get some new radiator hoses, $80 for top and bottom from Subaru, or $40ish from Supercheap for Mackay hoses.

Got the new radiator yesterday. Going down to see Sam who is hooking me up with some genuine hoses and stuff today and I'll most likely put it in later today or tomorrow. Rad seems to be pretty decent quality.

This car is REALLY clean, I thought mine was in good condition for being a '99 but this one blows mine away. Looks like its only a couple years old!

Cheers man, I try to keep it as clean and well maintained as possible!

So replaced the old cracked radiator today. Pretty simple and straightforward job, I reckon anyone with a 10mm, a 12mm, and a screwdriver could do this pretty easily without much drama.

Everything pulled out

New VS Old

Gave it all a good scrub

Old thermostat housing was a bit manky, so cleaned that all up with a wire brush.

Full flush for like 10mins.

Crude paintjob on some old bolts because I had none left and couldnt get to the shop, but I'll replace them when I can find a brand new overflow tank anyway.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2016/01/20160107_112147_zpssrvydhcr-1.jpg (http://s1221.photobucket.com/user/showusyourtints/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20160107_112147_zpssrvydhcr.jpg.html)

Old fans degreased, cleaned, checked out, and installed on the new radiator. (Had to line them up proper, of course) That overflow bottle will be replaced as it is crap and old.
