My engine died tonight as I was driving along. It died, then all the dummy lights came on including the flashing oil light. I coasted into a parking lot (an unusually well lit parking lot at 11:30 at night) I turned everything off, opened the hood and looked underneath for anything wrong. I never found anything but it smelled like oil, not a real bad smell but definitely not a good one. After a couple minutes of looking around trying to find anything not right, I figured I might as well try to start it up. It started right up but the "At Oil Temp" light flashed at me and went away.

What the hell happened? I checked the oil level but its good, its been three months since I changed it but I havn't put even 2000 miles on it. I couldn't see any leaks going on but I know you cant always see it.

It was already going to the shop Monday for a new coil pack and crank sensor, so I'll get this checked out too

btw I drove it home, a 25 minute drive (with my dad following behind) with no problems.. just that smell

Doesn't AT Oil Temp mean automatic transmission oil temp? Is your car an automatic? If so, have you checked the trans fluid? Changed it?

uh yeah... I knew that..... Im gonna blame this one on my lack of sleep

I havn't checked that.. actually I completely overlooked it, would that cause the engine to die though?

How's your ignition switch? Does the key move around a lot in there?
