Hi everyone, I have been a nissan 240sx owner for the past 2 years and am getting a little tired of it. The rear wheel drive isnt the best for utah. A friend of mine has offered me a 91 legacy turbo sedan with 61k, for a very low amount (under 600). It has been in his driveway for well over a year. What should I look for as far as problems and what are the good points of this year, and is this a good idea. Looking forward to hearing your input, you guys seem a lot more normal and down to earth than the 240 forum I've been a member of. thanks again

First off, welcome to SLi

The Legacy SS is a great liitle car IMO. If you are looking to mod the car, the 2.2l closed deck engine can handle quite a bit of power. Plus it doesn't take a whole lot to get them looking good. Lower it, throw some nice wheels on, and get some tint and you're set.

I know its your friend that is selling it, but make sure you know from him everything that is wrong with it. A 91 SS with 61k miles for under $600 is a steal.

With any car that has be sitting for a while, some things to check: fluid levels, seal leaks, moving parts that make have corroded and are seazed, brakes (especially brake fluid), check the tires and make sure they hold air, and I wouldn't run it very much until the oil is changed, throw a can of dry gas in with a fresh tank of fuel.

As for actaul things to watch for in that model year, I will leave that to an owner of that generation or someone that knows a bit more about 'em than me.

The 240 is a nice car, but I think I would enjoy the Sport Sedan more

You'll be pleased :) the first gen turbos are a lot of fun.

They have tons of potential, as they are pretty much just a GC chassis impreza (ie pre-01), so most suspension stuff will bolt right up from that platform. The EJ22t is a great motor, I could go on all day about what to do with it though. Look under Members Rides 1 and look for Kelly's SS. Its one of my favorite 1st gen's ive ever seen.

its an automatic, the only thing wrong with the body is that the clear coat is coming up in a lot of spots
