Sweet! Congrats! Do you plan on leaving the automagic in the car when you swap the engine?

Is it an easier swap into the older legacys to drop the ej22t's? And congrats! I'm jealous.

It's about time someone is getting real power for their Legacy here.

i think it is fair for us to demand updates.

i find it difficult to believe that those two wrench monkies did absolutely NOTHING to the engine all weekend and into this week.

Nice to see, Jessica.

Do your homework, and you'll enjoy the swap as much as the results (but I'm sure you know that)

Wellll..... It depends, the motorcycle bug hit me again. The bike I paid for at the start of the summer fell through. My friends cousin never got the title, so he gave me back the money. I since paid of some things and blown the rest of it. This and next week I will throw together $1,200-$1,500 together and see if I can put a nice down payment on one. If I can't get it all the money will go towards the swap.

Quick stupid questions:

What's the power specs on the EJ22T?
IS there a write-up on preforming such a swap?

What's the power specs on the EJ22T?
I believe they make 160chp stock, with similar torque.

Wiscon_Mark
08-17-2006, 05:59 PM
correct on the chp, 180 lb ft of crank torque.

There's a whole lot of room for improvement though. The heads are a major problem on the EJ22T, and the lack of IC as well as the turbo's limitations.

BAC5.2
08-17-2006, 06:00 PM
160hp/180tq.

I made more than double the stock output, no swap necessary :)

belladonna
08-18-2006, 03:59 PM
well, it wouldn't be the stock turbo on my engine...the stock turbo and up pipe will be sold on ebay. i'm buying a WRX turbo and TMIC off a friend. i'm getting some other goodies like a turbo timer, boost controller and piggyback to manage the fuel and such from another acquaintance...so far, i think i'm doing well

That's awesome that you're going to build up an EJ22T, they are very good engines.

The TD04-13C is not much of an upgrade over the VF11 and with the straight compressor inlet it can be very hard to plumb in. The #3 intake runner on the EJ22T intake manifold is in the way. You will need to make a custome 90 degree inlet and there is almost no room.

The TD04 makes the compressor oulet to I/C inlet plumbing easier but if you use the WRX TMIC you'll need to relocate your ignitor, smash your firewall, cut in a hood scoop or swap in a Legacy Turbo hood, custom plumb the PCV lines, custom plumb and relocate the coolant tank, cut the throttle body, worry about the throttle linkage and maybe have to cut it depending on what kind of DV, BOV you run, ect....

If you use the VF11 and a Saab 900 TMIC (the WRX TMIC is only slightly better) you only have to worry about around half of those things. It's much, much easier and has almost the same gains.

I'm assuming that you're referring to the Blackstone intercooler found on the MY94 and below Saab 900 Turbos? If so, that is actually a FMIC. Very popular to use on Miata turbo projects, too.

Wiscon_Mark
08-19-2006, 12:52 AM
No, the Saab 900 IC he's referring to is definitely Top Mount. A lot of SS owners use them.

BTW- I got to ride in an STi tonight. (06) It was insane.

It's used as TMIC on the Legacy turbos but OEM on the Saab they are FMIC.....well actually, they are more of a side mount style on the Saab but yeah, EXP is right that they aren't used as a TMIC in the Saabs.

They work perfect as a TMIC on the 1st Gen Legacy turbos though. looks OEM.

Here are a few pics of my old set up when I was running a Saab 900 setup with my Monster TD05H-16G.
