Hahaha! I did not, but I like it. a lot.

Cute little rollerskate, Yama. You're gonna get all the looks in that thing. Make the Miata guys jealous. Did it have all the upgrades when you got it, or have you started working your magic already?

Everything except the headunit is what it left Japan with. I negotiated some items off/on the car when I bought it.

I finally got the translation certification from the Embassy and went to the MVA today. The Cappuccino has its own plates and is road legal now! I will receive the US title in a couple weeks.
Now that It is road legal, I have to take it to get inspected so I can receive a full registration. That'll be interesting. The guy who I take all of my cars to for state inspections I don't think will even fit in the car....

So what exactly are the steps you have to do to import a car and make it legal?

That totally depends on the car. But the basic steps should be obvious: Buy the car, ship the car, receive the car, register the car. Done!

Thats a sweet little ride.

I hate that there are cool sports cars I'll never get to drive because I'm too big

What are the odds of my 6'4 200lb self squeezing into one of these?

In my quest for my first car I went to drive different things like an integra, MX-3, and a miata that I discovered I could never own or drive because my legs are too long

You couldn't fit in a Miata? When I used to autocross, there was one tall guy who didn't seem to have too much trouble fitting in his Miata. Although I don't think he was 6'4". Probably closer to 6'1" or 6'2". My roommate at the time could fit in my Miata and he was 6'1". So maybe that is the limit to still be comfortable.

But the Cappuccino is way smaller. I have a coworker who is about 6'4" or so and I have to get a picture of him in the Cappuccino. For comical purposes, of course.

I organized the garage and managed to fit 4 vehicles in my 2 car garage today. I parked the Cappuccino where I normally put the bike (behind the S401) and fit the bike next to the S401. That left plenty of room to fit the Forester for an oil change. In that configuration though, I wouldn't be able to take out either the bike or the Cappuccino without moving the Forester first. I am working to organize things in a way to fit the Impreza, S401, NM4, and the Cappuccino while still being able to drive two of them in/out without difficulty. I'm only able to do it because the Cappuccino takes up about as much room as the bike. If it were a normal size car, there's no way it'd work. I'll take pictures once I am done.

The car passed the MD state inspection and I already have the full 2-year registration sticker from MVA. There were some minor hiccups (like the inspector not having any of the inspection data for the car), but I was able to provide everything they needed since I already have all of the service manuals, pars catalogues, and factory books on it. One other thing that I am mildly concerned with: the inspector wrote the "mileage" in directly and didn't convert it to miles. When I went to the MVA, they wrote that for it's mileage. So in their system, it gained about 30,000 miles in a week. They wouldn't convert it because it's what the inspector wrote in. One other thing, the inspector had to get somebody else to drive it because he couldn't fit. The other guy walked up to the car and got in on the wrong side....

(oh, and no update on the garage space. I haven't done anything else with it)

I have zero intention of changing the interior. In fact, the interior was one reason for getting this particular car. The woodgrain interior was a catalogue option that not a lot of people opted for. The steering wheel and shifter are totally bonus.

Really guys?

In other news, since this is my poor-weather vehicle I drove it this morning instead of the NM4. And since it's DST, I drove while it was still dark out. I found out that it's a little scary to drive in traffic in the dark. I'm so low that it seems like everybody has their high beams on so I'm constantly being blinded. That applies to oncoming traffic and my rear view. They never showed that in InitialD...

The Cappuccino may be small, but I still can't drive under the cars in front of me.

Also, I've discovered that it is limited to a top speed of 87mph, or 140kph. This isn't a redline issue either, since it's only at around 5k rpms at that time. Once the speedo hits the end, it just won't go faster for some reason. However, it isn't a fuel cut off like in the S401 at 180kph. It just won't accelerate any more. I intend to look into this further.

So the forecast shows snow all day on Sunday. At 3-5in, I'd need to fit a snow plow to the front in order to go anywhere. Okay maybe not that bad, but the weather is enough of a reason for me not to go this weekend.

I've been able to drive the NM4 and the Cappuccino on the same routes now and I have a number of observations.

The Cappuccino is almost an exact opposite of the NM4. I'll explain:
1) The NM4 is a motorcycle, and therefore, accelerates very quickly. The Cappuccino is the slowest car I've owned in a LONG time. Even the 3.0 H6 was much faster. I think it may be slower than my brother's '00 LGT.
2) The corners are a different story. The NM4 has to slow down a lot so I don't eat pavement, but the Cappuccino almost doesn't need brakes at all. After a Maxima (driving like a jackass) flew past me on the freeway, I caught up to him quickly on the cloverleaf (before he took off again on the straightaway).
3) Strangely, the NM4 is faaaar more comfortable. It absorbs the potholes and worn pavement, while the Cappuccino bounces around like an old matchbox car. I think it shares the same suspension as those old matchbox cars....
4) The headlights on the NM4 are absolutely amazing, while the headlights on the Cappuccino seem to be for show only. Driving at night is not recommended unless the streets are very well lit. I will upgrade to HIDs once I upgrade the electrical system.
5) The upside is that I can drive the Cappuccino in the rain or snow and stay dry. I obviously can't do that on the NM4.
6) Parts for the NM4 are plentiful (since it's new and shares a LOT with other models), while I have to really search and special order anything I want for the Cappuccino (and it won't be cheap).

One way in which they are similar: The windshield wipers on the Cappuccino are almost as ineffective as the ones on the NM4 (the NM4 doesn't have wipers, it's a bike). I'm not talking about the blade (which can be replaced), I mean the wiper motor and arm.

I used to say that the two best cars I have ever driven were the S401 and the Cappucino, but the S401 works everywhere and does everything the Cappucino can.... and more. I think the S401 stands alone now. Having said all that, I am not sorry I got the car. I still get decent mileage and can park in any spot without worrying about somebody dinging me with their door. I think I just was looking at the '93 I used to have with rose-colored glasses.

In a follow up to this, a coworker (who is 6'4" and 220lbs) and I went out to my car to see if he could fit. That definitely wasn't going to happen though. Even taking the roof panel off, the steering wheel is completely blocking access for his legs. There was just no way for him to contort himself to fit behind the wheel.

He said that it was a neat looking little car, but he's never going to call me if he needs a ride somewhere.
