Hey guys hoping this is the appropriate place to post this.

I have a question, are there any signs that lead to a broken rack n pinion? Perhaps on its way out? My car is a 00 legacy L.
As far as I know the car swerves on its own and sometimes shakes the steering wheel pretty violently only on the highway. I've checked all lug nuts (which were tight) and shook the tires while suspended and they were really snug as well. Upon quick look under chassis nothing seems to be out of place.

This morning as I was leaving my driveway I turned right at about 3mph and had a nasty vibration as the steering wheel turned. I parked it and left it alone for the day.

I would check alignment and wheel balance first. Those are the most likely suspects (and cheaper to resolve).

Wheel balance was done about a month ago because I bought some lgt wheels for the car. Alignment wasn't done tho.... I'll start there I guess.

Thanx

You know what? I missed that you said it happened at 3mph. That wouldn't be an alignment issue then... I don't know what it could be unless you are having the same problem our E500 had... a messed up rear diff. I'd wait until somebody else more knowledgeable than I to chime in.

Did you drive over a rock or bump during that turn?

It sounds to me that something is either loose or broken in your front suspension, and it is likely not the rack itself.

So update!! I stopped driving the car for a few days so I can eventually start looking into the problem. Take off the passenger wheel and lo and behold I found the problem. Here's a video.
