Hi everyone. I just bought a 2001 Subaru Legacy Blitzen Wagon with a 5speed mt out of auction in Japan. I'm waiting on the car to arrive at the exporters facility early next week. The car had an auction grade of a 4B, and there's about 95,000 km's on it. The only info I have right now is it has an aftermarket muffler and a turbo timer. I should hopefully have a better idea on what's been done to the car on Monday or Tuesday.

In the mean time I've been trying gather us much information as I can on the Blizten and Twin Turbo Subaru's in general. I only have experience with single turbo set ups and only seem to find posts about how bad the VOD is on the TT Legacies. Can anyone point me in the direction of some good threads about how to modify the Legacys to reduce the VOD without going single turbo?

Anyway here's the only pictures I have of the car right now

It looks pretty good. Do you know why there is a set of skirts inside the car? Is it a spare set? or did they take them off the car?

Welcome to the forum!

It has to be a spare set, the auction house don't modify the cars at all

They could be blitzen skirts in the car, the ones on it don't look like the blitzen ones.

From what I see on google images, the Blitzen didnt have special skirts until D-type. Since this is a B/C type car, it seems to have the correct skirts in the exterior pictures.

The skirts are from the parts catalogue (an option part). That Blitzen didn't come with it from the factory. Speaking of not being factory, I would suspect a lot of VoD has been eliminated since the car seems pretty modified.

After you get the car, please take more detailed pictures of the interior. That steering wheel looks like they took a '95 RS wheel and somehow attached some kind of control panel to it. There was no cruise control in the Blitzens, so I know it isn't that. But I have no idea what it could be. Same with the two buttons next to the headlight leveler. I'm guessing interior lighting, since there aren't any foglights.
But I see that it does have an extended armrest. That's a real nice bonus. Those are kind of difficult to come across.

The thing on the steering wheel looks kind of like an aftermarket stereo control, but I cant see it very clearly. It looks like there is also a 100v inverter in the center console, as well as a few buttons/knobs/something in the coin tray.

Wow, I wish everybody took thorough pictures like you. If you don't mind, I'll post the scans of the Blitzen catalogues after I get back home. That should help you out a bit.
From first glance, suspension and front brakes are factory. Do you have pics of the rear setup?

Loving the pictures, thanks!

I'm going to need some help with these pictures, as I'm not sure what all these modifications are

From what I can see...
Outside:
Headlight "eyelids"
Carbon fiber? scoop
tail light and center garnish eyelids
I see some red snail horns behind the grill.. perhaps some Mitsuba Alphas?

Dash:
turbo timer
boost controller
boost gauge
Panasonic navigation
control on steering wheel is for the navigation.
carbon fiber overlay all over.

Center console:
Subaru 100V power outlet

Rear inside:
Rear strut brace

Engine bay:
Zerosports intake tube
front strut bar, I can t make out the brand on it.
some generic grounding kit
aftermarket wiring for an amplifier.

Suspension: Looks stock to me, and really clean.

I do not know what that ITC box is.

EDIT: Oops, the Sony stereo and red speakers were factory (option?).

The taillight and center garnish covers are factory. This should help OP identify some stuff: http://www.sti.jp/blitzen/galley/galley_f.htm

The pictures are from the exporter, it sounds like it might be tough getting any more. I've asked for photo's of the extra side skirts that were in the car. Canadian customs wont allow anything that's loose in the car enter into the country, I have to see if they work shipping separately

Any guesses as to what the two extra switches are for after seeing more pictures of the Car?

I cant tell what's hanging down from the ceiling in pictures showing the interior through the rear hatch

Ha, I should've looked at the number plates on the cars in the background.
To add to rkrenicki's list:
Chrome side mirror covers
The "ITC" is an ignition timing controller (I think).

I stand my original comment that you probably won't have to worry about VoD in this car. However, I would have it re-tuned for the gas in your area so you don't damage the engine.
I still think one of the two switches will be for interior lighting. I have no idea what the things are hanging down in the rear cabin are.... weird.

This looks like a great find. If you don't mind my asking, how much did you pay in total?

Thanks for the help, it should cost me around $6800 Canadian after shipping and tax

Can you re-tune these cars on the stock ecu?

I'm pretty certain it can be reflashed. However, I am not super knowledgeable about tuning. Even for my S401, I just opted to run it on the same gas that's used in Japan (equivalent to 96 octane in the US) since I don't drive it very much. However, if it were a daily-use vehicle, I might look into reflash options because using 96 is costly and not convenient.

Hey man, nice car!

4 pot brakes is a great option, liked it and your car at all

You should find ihi VF33 primary turbo to have better acceleration. But if you find it you'll have to change ECU, harness and turbo intake hose (bcz vf33 is bigger)

Would the Enkei T6S in a 18x8x45 fit without rubbing? What size tire would you recommend with it?

I suggest it will rubbing.
I had Rays 17*7.5*45 and it was rubbing in front after suspension goes down

I've been contemplating using B-Pro Auto to import a car for me into Canada and then import into the states. I know there is a 25 year old limit, but they can be legally imported because the NHTSA has crash and safety data on the Legacy's in the US. A friend of mine got his 93 Liberty imported a few years ago from Australia with ease. Only thing is I want a late 90's 2nd Gen Wagon and they don't seem to have any, so I guess it's a special order item.

B-Pro is great! I wouldn't pay to much attention to his stock, its all for the Canadian market. Give him a deposit and let him find the car you want

Wow! This is an amazing Blitzen! Love it more that I've seen better pics. Super clean!

What part of Canada are you in? If you are in BC, you should come down to WCSS (West Coast Subaru Show) this August. Would love to see this in person.

I'm just running 94 octane on the stock tune right now.

The car has one major issue right now.. Since the previous owner in Japan swapped in a different steering wheel I can't get it to pass inspection, I need to source a stock steering will with airbag and a stock steering wheel hub asap

Red85Celica might have a JDM wheels and airbag actually.

If not, I think just about any 3rd gen Legacy wheel and airbag should work. Just cheap the plug to make sure they are the same. Do you have any pics of what you need? Just the wheel and bag, or are you also missing all the wiring?

Thanks, I'll send him a pm! I'm hoping the factory wiring is still there, I havent had a chance to go through it.

Once I replace the steering wheel and need to do the clutch and exhaust. This car came with some random Chinese axle back that is leaking. Does any one have any recommendations for types of exhaust I should look for?
