I just found this forum, I bought a '99 Brighton wagon a few weeks ago:

114k miles, 5speed. I like it a lot so far, but I need a tach badly! I searched around a bit and found that the cluster has a plug for a tach behind it. So I'm wondering, would it be possible to buy a used gauge cluster and take just the tach out of it? Or is the cluster all one piece? I could replace the whole cluster but I'd like to keep the odometer milage accurate. My mom bought me a small sunpro tach to put it in it but I think it would look kinda dumb mounted on the dash, so I'm looking for an in cluster solution.

Thanks in advance.

Hey glad you made it over. There is a way to install a different cluster into your current car, though I believe its a one piece deal. I'm sure there is a way to adjust the odometer to your current mileage as well.

I ran a tach on my pick up truck the oldschool way. I used a huge hose clamp to go around the entire steering column. My dad's chevelle gave me that idea.

First thing you should do is rip out the snorkus box. That'll give you a big grin on your face everytime you romp on it. It looks pretty clean, but looks like maybe the previous owner was a skier too. My back bumper has tons of small dings in it from her ramming her skis into it. It doesn't look like you have any wind burn on your front bumper though, so thats good.

What exactly is the snorkus box, the intake resonator or something?

Yeah my rear bumper is pretty hack. No dings on it but a ton of scratches and gouges in it. I don't understand how people can be so careless with their cars!

Thanks for the help.

If you live in a rusty area, get those gouges and nicks taken care of!

If you can find a 2nd hand dash, just wind the cluster until the miles match yours. Or find one thats "roundabout" what you have. Won't really matter much as long as it's semi-accurate.

And welcome!

I didn't realize the odometer could roll so easily. Would this cluster from a '97 fit it? http://tinyurl.com/hcsmk
