Hi Folks,
Jamie here, from the Land of The Long White Cloud, Aotearoa New Zealand. Been in love with Subarus since getting to drive my previous employer's tricked-out twin-turbo GT-B wagon: it handled like it was on rails; was well-appointed inside; growled like a starving lion; and took off like a cut cat :) Yet still a totally practical, unassuming car.
My current ride is a '94 Legacy BG station wagon. She's seen better days, and I've joined the SL-I forums in the hopes of being able to find out how to bring her back to life and give her a facelift.
Specs, as far as I am able to tell:
- Year: 1994
- Model: TS-R (badge missing, but I worked it out)
- Engine: EJ20DD (2.0L, N/A, DOHC)
- Transmission: automatic AWD
When I bought her, someone had replaced the stock airbox and intake with a pod filter, so goodbye efficiency... Sounds great though, hearing that induction!
The clearcoat has peeled from the bonnet (hood) and roof, and the paint is missing in some areas; there's a little rust close to the fuel filler and on the boot (trunk) door. It's been used as a tradesman's vehicle at some stage, as the interior carpets are miscellaneously stained. I've replaced the power steering pump, which had a leak, but there's no sign that the timing belt has ever been replaced; at 256,000 km, I think this really should be the next repair, but I shudder at the thought of the cost! Rear diff has been a bit iffy, but has come right with the addition of some shudder-fix. Have cleaned the MAF sensor and cleaned the fuel injectors, which seemed to help with the fuel economy in the short term, but I think I need to replace the spark plugs and fuel filter too (probably still running on the original filter!).
I'd like to get her back to good running condition, reliable and ready for longer journeys, and everyday driving in comfort. Plus some fun out on the open road ;)
Anyone else on the forum based in Southland? Was thinking about getting a Subaru Club going down here!
