I was wondering if anyone knows if a SFAC would work with my 2002 legacy?
Also has anyone ever installed one and does it make a difference? And do you know a good place to buy one cheap?

I've installed one on a v3 STi swapped GC8 and it worked fine, I would figure it would work for you as well. All the SRT-4s in ECB run them, and love them. They prefer SAFC-1 over SAFC-2 though. I'll ask around, someone might have upgraded to standalone and have an extra one around.

that would be awesome if you can get one for a good deal. I have looked around and I cant find one for under $170.

safc is only an air fuel controller. not a full EMS

A buddy of mine has an HKS AFR for sale. He said he'd sell it for 120. Its the same idea as an SAFC.

just remember, on anything that has an adaptive ECM eventually the system will try to "learn around" any piggybacks. It is a workable solution for a while, but wont get you too far. If you decide to spend more than a couple hundred you may want to look into something more like a standalone.

On an N-A it makes maybe a couple horsepower difference, but to do that you will need to tune it with a wideband at least, best to do that on a dyno if you can to really get the most out of it.

Yes, dyno tuning is best. and you have to reset you're ECU frequently.

The SAFC can be set to avoid the self-learning ECU in the later years. If you have a pre-99 ECU, you will avoid the OEM ECU learning around the SAFC parameters. This is well documented on the RS boards.

$170 isn't bad, though you can pick up a used one for less (which is recommended, because they're electronic, they don't exactly "wear out").

All they do is alter the signal being sent to the ECU so that it instructs the car to lean out the fuel mix before a certain RPM, which generates slightly more power.

A wideband O2 is helpful to monitor O2 levels to make sure you're "tuning" correctly.

So I just picked up a used SAFC, EGT, "full throttle" A/F meter and cluster... waiting on shipping, and am digging around as I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to "tuning". Will be going into the ol' 99 gt and hoping to squeeze some more juice out of her with current mods and get the damn thing to run a bit more efficient. seems to run relatively rich w/ k&n-snorqusectomy intake, light flywheel, borla-header, stromung h/f cat, midpipe, and SPT rear section. Gonna start without wideband O2 and see how it goes...

anyone have recommendations/experience pls link resources here. traditionally lurked old school style in legacy Nasioc and i-club.... but will be bouncin in here more often now, especially haven taken first drive in 05 LGT yesterday and am tempted to pull the trigger soon.

So there is a way to avoid the self learning problem, where is this documented? Could you get me a link, cause I have no idea where to find this info.
