Suh Dudes!

My name is CJ and I currently reside in sunny-humid Florida. I decided to finally create a build journal for my 99 Legacy GT wagon!

Where to begin?

I'm on craigslist ALL THE TIME, literally, like it might be an addiction. I like to flip OEM/aftermarket Subaru parts whenever I find a deal (sometimes the owner doesn't realize what they actually have :p) or laugh to myself at owners who ask ridiculous amounts for their cars, especially STI owners ;).

So while searching around, I came across someone selling a 5 spd 99 Legacy GT wagon w/ black leather and the ridiculously low asking price really sparked my interest. He only had a couple pictures of the car, one exterior and interior shot but everything looked mint. I was like wut? I literally never ran across my room so fast to get my phone in my life, immediately sent a text asking if it was still available and luckily he said yes. He stated that their were a couple of issues and a "penny size dent on the rear driver side quarter panel" (remember this description of this size dent so I can show you what he actually means) so I was like thats fine with meh and I was on my way to look at the car the following morning.

After meeting up with him and doing my own 73 point inspection check, there were for sure a handful of issues:

Tires would chirp at a slower speed while turning
Humming from two of the four wheels
Oil leak coming from the rear of the motor
"Quarter size dent"
Couple of very small surface rust spots
Check engine code for knock sensor
Speedo tach doesn't always work

Along with the blown suspension and the brakes with nothing left, it was in pretty good shape for its age. Couple of previous owners, no accidents, power everything worked, AC, Power steering, no rips or tears in leather, timing belt/water pump done, nothing missing, and all original. I saw a lot of potential and I liked how you never see this particular generation modded esp in the wagon form, the GT trim was the cherry on the top. Only thing that was missing is my personal touch and love <3

After putting on my poker face and stating all the issues with the car, I ended up buying it

I was pretty pumped that day lol

Great pickup. I'm also a Craigslist addict. I use two monitors at work and usually leave an open window all day long that I refresh once an hour in the background.

I love me a quicksilver 2nd gen wagon! Good luck with the build - any plans you have in store for it?
