E85?

So, I've been reading all over nasioc about e85. Apparently colorado is pretty good to find the stuff, and it makes for a pretty significant power increase for such a small change (not to mention its cheaper). But all the info I found on it was for the newer imprezas and WRX's. So are our older cars able to run on e85 with upgraded injectors, and new fuel lines like the RS2.5 and WRX crowd can? I could definately save the coin, and I might even look into getting it into my mom's camry if it really works that well.

Subaru hasn't changed the 10% rule on any of their vehicles (you know, it reccomends 10% ethanol at maximum) as far as I know, so I don't think anything has really changed, fuel system wise. Obviously the WRX fuel system is a bit better already. It really depends on the Engine management and the ability of the fuel system.

right, and from what I've read WRX's can handle up to 30% mixture stock. The RS can as well and with bigger injectors up to about 60% mixture. I just would like to know what my car can do. I might have to talk it up with some of the local e85 nuts.

E85 runs like crap in our engines. You'd need basically an entire new fuel system.

I have been doing some reading about this stuff, it is available in my town too. Haven't tried it yet.

General agreement is you need to run 1.3 times as much e85 for the engine to deal with an 100% tank. Some users have used tanks of 30% E85 and the rest regular with no problems and better performance mainly due to the octane differences. I may top the tank up one day to see how it does, I just would hate to need to drain it out if it complains.

I would think the EJ25 and EJ22 share fuel systems. I really doubt that they've changed much in the newer cars either. They were much more concerned about the headgaskets failing :razz:

Well, yes, it does on most non-flex fuel vehicles (E85 compliant). But is it worth modding? For better power and cheaper prices, yes, it certainly looks that way.

So that's only about 25% ethanol. 30% is about the limits, stock, from what I've heard on Subarus.
