subaru legacy wagon 2.5 gx 1997

Hi,

Hope to find some answers here!! Cause in Belgium or Holland they don't know about anything, except some vague answers from Subaru Benelux..

So, I have the opportunity to buy an excellent Subaru Legacy wagon 2.5 GX, automatic, air suspension, 70.000km from 1997. Reading some articles on the internet, these engines seemed to be weak or better some have head gasket problems. Did these engines run on LPG or just normal fuel?
Our dealers here deny everything and its difficult to find info on our forums. Can you help me?

uuuuggghhhhhh, air suspension...

i think that makes aftermarket suspension difficult, but don't quote me on that, in shopping for struts and stuff i've seen "will fit all 95-99 legacy exp. models w/ air suspension".

hopefully someone w/ experience with this will chime in.

So what you say is: when air suspension brakes down you can only go to the local subaru dealer and that's expensive? Cause I don't understand these struts and....am I correct?
Anyway, here in Belgium you don't see these cars often..maybe once a month a subaru, except for impreza wrx. So you won't find them on wreckyards no.
Actually, I've never seen before a 2.5 gx wagon in my life! Only 2.0 litres engines..maybe they all broke down!

Yes, the EJ25 has Headgasket problems. But there is an update so you won't experience these problems again, once you get them replaced. So it's a pretty much "for sure" problem, but if you have the updated gasket put in there, you shouldn't have any problems again.

As for the air suspension, it's pricey, and there's really no way around it, as far as I know.

OK,...and is it intelligent to replace these headgaskets before the problems come, to save some bucks or just wait and see..?

And there is something else, the cars in the States are they build in the states and do they have the same specifications as those in Europe..same pieces and so? Cause overhere the dealers don't say anything about these problems, even when specifically asked.
