WHAT THE HELL!!!!

i was driving my car todaywhen all of the suddun it started to stink horrably and was not accelerating very well at all but the RPM's were shooting up very fast (in every gear). what the hell is going on! any ideas? :!:

*sniff* ahh the essence of burnt clutch. It must have given out entirely, unless you hadn't dealt with the slippage.

Well, when the clutch is engaging, it sorta clamps together, like two spinning plates joining faces. Eventually, they burn up and won't engage the engine to the transmission, making it seem like your car is in neutral (which would be the exact same thing after it's burnt) and smelling awful.
