Check out the swaps forum.

It's much more $$$ efficient to get a swap done, because you'll eventually want to mod your engine to take more boost.

You don't want to be limited to less than 10 PSI once you get started.

It's possible to turbo charge any engine. Even your lawn mower, if you really wanted to. That said, I wouldn't recommend it. Subaru builds their turbo blocks much stronger than the NA blocks. (or at least they did, not sure about current stuff, but I bet they still do) Your GT's engine just isn't going to handle boost nearly as well as an engine designed for it. Add in all the sensors and wiring you'd likely need to change, and you're much better off just doing a swap.

165hp is plenty of power to get in trouble with.

You could have 50 HP and still get in trouble, so true.

ivwarrior- While they're not as strong as they used to be, the Subaru turbo blocks are still much more boostable than the N/A blocks. They're not fully closed deck, but they are fully forged, and the EJ257 is still semi-closed deck.

Gator GT and i have both done lots of research on swaps. Read my sticky thread, and then if youre serious and have real questions, ask away I'm more than happy to help.

The stickey thread is in the swaps and conversions forum.

I have no idea what you meant by that first line.

Drag racing is pretty dumb, modifying your car to kill your friends and other stuff on the street is super dumb. There's so much better stuff to waste your money on.

Spending some time learning how to launch your car properly should be enough to kill most other kids. I was amused for several years with my stock slow-ass cars seeing how fast i could get going before the car with 100hp more than mine would pass me. At the end of the day nobody gives a crap if you have a fast car.

Legacies handle reasonably well, though, and that's where the fun in cars is anyway. The best part is that you don't have to drop 3k on car parts to get out there and have fun; you only have to spend enough to get the car to behave well and running right. At the risk of pimping myself, i suggest ya read https://sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?t=3033

Swap out the shortblock. Not only is it stronger, but it has a low compression ratio much more suited to turbocharging.

How easy is it? The mechanical aspect is pretty straightforward, especially if you have worked on engines before. Wiring can be a nightmare, so read up before you get yourself frustrated mid-way.
