Be specific with the type of wax and the tools you use to apply the wax, as well as how you apply it.

i used turtle wax that was specifically for red cars, i applied it with a damp sponge... you just wipe it on i a circular motion... then you wait for the wax to dry and turn a flat color, then you whipe it off with a towel (at least that's what i did and it kept the car spotless when i drove 1200 miles to CT)

Just kidding, I actually don't wax my car right now because it needs to be painted anyway. I used to use plain old turtlewax with a wool mitt.

I used meguier's with the included sponge. Wipe on one section in circles, wipe off the opposite direction with a nice towel.

I wash the car with Meguiar's Deep Crystal wash - it's cheap, does the job and comes out clean.

Then I towel dry using cotton towels - note the plural.

If the paint is rough, I'll use a claybar to lift grime from the paint, with Meg's Instant Detailer for lube (oooerrr).

Then Plast-X for any deeper scratches, followed by the Meg's Car Wax with the sponge applicator.

The key is to do all the cleaning when the paint is cool, and out of the sun.

I'm a bit cheap on the products, but Shooter is the man when it comes to getting a deep shine and long lasting protection.

Recently I have been using TurtleWax ICE... I must say that it brings the gloss back to the paint like it was new. NOTCE: it does not hide scratches or chips. Recommendation for anyone that uses it. Regardless of what the directions say, apply it to a cool surface and in small areas, take it off immediately after application. If you don't, you will have to re-wet the area to properly remove/apply the polish. The water-beading effect does not seem to last as long as the Meguires Cleaner Wax that I used to use, but the shine lasts much longer. Even when the car is dirty :cool: . Plus you can wax any exterior surface with this product and not have to worry about white residue left behind on plastics from regular wax.

It is applied with a small spongue and removed with a micro-fiber towel. Around $16 at AutoZone :wink:

same here, but when i did (i'm kinda picky):

1)apply no touch 'windsheid stripper' with a car wax sponge, spray meguiars hot wheels cleaner at the same time. then rinse both.

1) mothers california gold car wash, scubbed with a really fine auto/boat brush.

2) dry it using ginormous microfiber towels, and two small ones one for wheels and one for door jams and such.

2) use a mothers clay bar just where it's needed using meguiars quik detailer as lube *lots of lube. i then repeat 1 + 2.

3) i either use mequiars nxt paste wax (no residue like gold class) on the car and wheels then turtle wax ICE on the plastics, OR use meguiars scratch-X and put ICE on the whole car. i do the car in halfs front to back with each thing, applying each in circles, taking them off with microfibers. and like basser, i highly recommend the ICE.

4) rinse the car, dry, quik detail, stoner tire shine the tires.

5) Admire.

I apply Meguiar's NXT wax on with an electric buffer. The buffer seems to do a better job than what I do with my arms alone and it's sure as heck a lot faster.
