snorkus delete problem

yesterday i took the snorkus off my car. Now it idles at 500 rpms. Is this normal, if not what is going on with it?

it will fix itself.

or, you could reset the ecu by unplugging the battery for an hour and then warm it up (don't touch the throttle), turn it off, and turn it back on and drive away.

Yep, it relearns itself. Resetting the ECU will speed the process up. It's a good idea anyways, as you might get a CEL from the snorkus delete.

Mine idles at 500 rpms anyways :lol: But that's always been normal, in my experience.

remember your tach starts at 500, not 0. most Subarus idle around 700rpm.

If it doesn't relearn to idle higher, you can have the idle setting adjusted by a Subaru Select Monitor @ the dealer.

thanks, I did the thing with the battery and it runs fine now.

ps. do ya'll know were i can find a plate to cover up the big hole where the snorkus came back into the engin compartment.

Whats wrong with leaving it open? The air is cooler there than in the engine compartment, and its free to leave out.

I think the whole idea is to seal the fender from the hot engine air. It also looks cleaner.

That is actually an interesting point.

On my wife's RS I replaced the entire snorkus with a 3" pipe directly to the rear fender well opening and left the stock plug in place. However, the fender on the RS is sealed well enough that at higher rpm it felt like the motor was being strangled.

I removed the fender plug and though it's now getting warm air from the engine bay, it breathes a lot better.

That's one of the reasons I run the smaller aftermarket foglights on my GT, it makes a nice spot for cool air to flow into the fender. So now the fender plug lives in my car, and they're both happy ;)

My foglights are sold (because I'm expecting a new bumper) so I have lots of cool ouside air rushing into the fender. Should be no shortage there...
