Is it normal for me to get crap gas mileage after installing a K&N filter onto a intake arm and connecting it all up??

like i drive pretty conservitavely and i have a 95 2.2 5spd
per tank i usually get 300-350kms on 50 litres or so

Nope. I never had a problem on any cars.

That's quite low - I usually get at max about 512 kms per tank. But then I am not running a K&N. Did the drop in mileage occur concurrently with the change of filter? Was the filter over oiled?

I've never heard of a decrease, but some poeple like to boast fuel economy gains (not sure how true they really are).

After installing my K&N I didn't really see any difference. Is it possible that the filter had too much oil on it and some got sucked up onto your MAF? A dirty MAF will drastically increase fuel consumption.
